Dall’incontro, il comitato ha deciso di rinnovare i locali in cima a Brmpton Park e ha acconsentito a condividere gli ambienti con il gruppo culturale per la lingua irlandese Glór an Tuaiscairt e con il Safer Neighbourhood Ardoyne Project.
Il lavoro di restauro dei locali è a buon punto e speriamo di terminarli entro settembre, quando rilanceremo i servizi per le comunità di Ex-Prigionieri Repubblicani in Arfoyne, Bone e Ligoniel.
Il nuovo comitato ha anche acconsentito a svolgere una serie di eventi nella zona per permettere ai POW (Prisoners of War – Prigionieri di Guerra) Repubblicani di incontrarsi con i vecchi compagni e riallacciare l’amicizia forgiata durante l’incarcerazione.
Questa settimana si terrà il Giorno degli Ex Prigionieri (Ex-Prisoners’ Day) a Glenpark, sabato 8 agosto dalle 13 alle 16, come parte delle celrazione dell’Ard Eoin Fleadh (Festival di Ardoyne).
Questo includerà una mostra sulla lotta nelle prigioni e un folto gruppo di ex prigionieri sarà presente per condivedere le loro esperienze con la gente.
Stiamo preparando un “Teacht le Cheile” (nome ufficiale per le occasioni informali di festa) con craic (divertimento) e ceol (musica) sempre a Glenpark a partire dalle 20, con il famoso gruppo dublinese Clan Carney.
Speriamo di vedere molti ex prigionieri a questo evento, dopo che è trascorso un po’ di tempo da quando gli ex POW nella zona hanno organizzato una specie di “rimpatriata”.
Stiamo cercando di raggiungere il maggior numero di ex prigionieri possibile ed abbiamo spedito circa 250 inviti. Siamo consci, comunque, che la nostra lista di ex prigionieri locali è incompleta. Se conoscete qualcuno del quale ci siamo dimenticati, contattateci.

Group reaches out to ex-prisoners
Since the meeting, the committee have decided to renovate our premises at the top of Brompton Park and agreed to share the use of the premises with the Irish language cultural group Glór an Tuaiscairt and the Ardoyne Safer Neighbourhood Project.
The renovation work on the premises is now well under way and we hope for a completion date for the work in September when we will relaunch services for the Republican Ex-Prisoners’ community in Ardoyne, Bone and Ligoniel.
The new committee also agreed to run a number of events in the area to enable Republican POWs to meet up with old comrades and build on the friendships forged during our incarceration.
This week we are running an Ex-Prisoners’ Day in the Glenpark on Saturday, August 8 from 1pm to 4pm as part of the Ard Eoin Fleadh celebrations.
This will include an exhibition on the struggle in the prisons and a wide range of ex-prisoners will be there to share their experiences with the public.
We are also running a ‘Teacht le Cheile’ reunion night of craic and ceol in the Glenpark that evening starting at 8pm with the highly-rated Dublin band Clan Carney playing.
We hope to see as many ex-prisoners coming to this event as possible as it has been some time now since former POWs in the area have organised any sort of get-together.
We are trying to reach as many republican ex-prisoners as possible and have sent out over 250 invitations to the function. We are aware, however, that our list of local ex-prisoners is incomplete.
