Alcune armi da fuoco sono state recuperata da un’autovettura a Derry nel corso di un allarme sicurezza lanciato nella sera di venerdì.
Due uomini sono stati arrestati quando la polizia ha fermato due vetture nella zona di Northland Road poco dopo le 22.
La PSNI afferma di aver recuperato un certo quantitativo di munizioni ed una presunta pipe bomb.
I due sospettati, di 20 e 54 anni, sono stati trasferiti alla Serious Crime Suite della stazione di polizia di Antrim, dove aiutano le indagini della PSNI.
Il Soprintendente Capo Stephen Cargin ha affermato: “Abbiamo ancora visto l’incredibile disprezzo di quegli elenti che cercano di mettere in pericolo delle vite nella nostra comunità. Devo congratularmi con gli agenti coinvolti nell’operazione”.
Aggiunge il comandante: “La polizia chiede a tutti di continuare a lavorare con noi per togliere le armi dalla strada e per mettere i responsabili dietro alle sbarre”.

Weapons and pipe bomb seized in Londonderry alert
A NUMBER of suspected firearms have been recovered from car in Londonderry during a security alert on Friday night.
Two men have been arrested when police officers stopped two cars in the Northland Road area shortly after 10pm.
The PSNI said a quantity of ammunition and a suspected pipe bomb were also recovered.
Both suspects aged 20 and 54 were taken to Antrim Serious Crime Suite were they remain assisting police with their enquiries.
Chief Superintendent Stephen Cargin said: “We have seen again the blatant disregard of those individuals willing to endanger life in our community. I have nothing but praise for the officers involved in the operation.”
The district commander added: “Police would ask that everyone in the community continue to work with us to take weapons off our streets and put those responsible behind bars.”
