Four arrested as part of UVF north Belfast murders probe

Four men have been arrested by police investigating loyalist paramilitary murders in north Belfast.

The men, aged 40, 42, 47 and 51 were arrested in north Belfast on Monday.

They are being questioned at the serious crime suite in Antrim about the murder of Sean McParland in February 1994.

The 47-year-old man is also being questioned about the murders of Gary Convie, 24, and Eamon Fox, 44, in May 1994.

Mr Convie and Mr Fox were shot while they were sitting in their car at a building site in North Queen Street on 17 May 1994.

Mr McParland, 55, was shot in Skegoneill Avenue in February 1994 while babysitting. He died a week later.

Several properties were also searched during the police operation in north Belfast on Monday morning.

Police said the arrests were part of Operation Stafford, an investigation into a series of murders and other serious crimes by the UVF in north Belfast.
