Il Police Ombudsman ha lanciato un’indagine perché un agente di polizia ha sparato nel corso dell’arresto di quattro uomini
Il fatto è avvenuto quando la polizia ha fermato un veicolo in Donegall Road nella sera di mercoledì.
Gli uomini sarebbero stati arrestati dopo un inseguimento lungo le strade di Belfast. Un colpo di arma da fuoco sarebbe stato esploso ma nessuno è rimasto ferito.
GLi investigatori dell’ufficio del Police Ombudsman sono stati informati dell’accaduto e hanno iniziato la loro inchiesta.
Hanno affermato: “L’ufficio del Police Ombudsman ha iniziato un’indagine dopo che un proiettile è stato sparato da un ufficiale di polizia nella zona di Donegall Road a South Belfast mercoledì 6 novembre.
“L’incidente è avvenuto dopo che la polizia ha fermato un veicolo. Nessuno è rimasto ferito dallo sparo. Alcune persone sono state arrestate. Gli investigatori del Police Ombudsman sono stati chiamati sulla scena, che è stata cordonata per l’esame”.
I testimoni hanno detto che l’auto è stata mandata fuori strada dal veicolo della PSNI. La polizia ha detto solamente che gli arresti sono avvenuti dopo “una precedente operazione di polizia”.
Una portavoce della PSNI ha confermato che un colpo è stato sparato e l’accaduto riportato al Police Ombudsman, come procedura corrente.
Donegall Road è stata cordonata per un po’ di tempo mentre gli agenti eseguivano gli arresti.
Tutti gli utilizzi di armi da fuoco da parte della polizia in Irlanda del Nord sono automaticamente riportati dal comandante della PSNI al Police Ombudsman per un’indagine indipendente.

Probe over shot fired during arrests
An investigation has been launched by the Police Ombudsman after an officer fired a shot during the arrest of four men in south Belfast.
It happened when police stopped a vehicle in the Donegall Road area on Wednesday night.
The men are believed to have been detained following a car chase through the city. A shot was fired but no-one was injured.
Investigators from the ombudsman’s office were informed and have begun their inquiries.
They said: “The Police Ombudsman’s Office has begun an investigation after a shot was discharged by a police officer in the Donegall Road area of south Belfast on Wed 6 Nov.
“The incident happened after police stopped a vehicle. It is understood no one was injured by the shot. A number of people have been arrested. Police Ombudsman investigators have been tasked to the scene, which has been cordoned off for examination.”
Witnesses at the scene said the car had been forced off the road by a police vehicle. Police would only say the arrests followed on from “an earlier police operation”.
A PSNI spokeswoman confirmed one shot had been fired and the matter had been referred to the Police Ombudsman’s Office, as is normal procedure.
The Donegall Road was cordoned off for a period while police carried out the arrests.
All discharges of police firearms in Northern Ireland are automatically referred by the Chief Constable to the Police Ombudsman’s Office for independent investigation.
