Un uomo è stato arrestato dagli investigatori nel corso delle indagini su un attacco contro la polizia avvenuto a West Belfast nel 2015
La blindatura e il vetro antiproiettile avevano salvato le vite dei due poliziotti seduti all’interno della vettura al momento dell’attacco.
L’auto era stata colpita da 8 proiettili. La stessa arma, un fucile d’assalto AK-47, è stata usata per l’attacco di Crumlin Road del 22 gennaio, quando un agente è rimasto ferito dai proiettili sparati dalla strada.
Geoff Boyce, Ispettore Capo, ha detto: “Gli investigatori del Serious Crime Branch della PSNI che indagano sul tentato omicidio di agenti di polizia in Rossnareen Avenue, Belfast, avvenuto il 26 novembre 2015, hanno arrestato un uomo di 29 anni”.
L’uomo è stato trasportato nella stazione di polizia di Musgrave, Belfast, per essere interrogato.
Man arrested over murder bid on PSNI
A man has been arrested by detectives probing a dissident republican murder bid against police in west Belfast in 2015.
Armoured plating and bulletproof glass saved the lives of the two officers inside a vehicle when they were ambushed.
The car was riddled with up to eight rounds. The same weapon, an AK-47, was used in an attack on a PSNI officer on the Crumlin Road in north Belfast on January 22. That case featured on BBC’s Crimewatch show on Monday.
Detective Chief Inspector Geoff Boyce said: “Detectives from the PSNI’s serious crime branch investigating the attempted murder of police officers at Rossnareen Avenue, Belfast, on November 26, 2015, have arrested a 29-year-old man.”
He was taken to Musgrave serious crime suite in Belfast city centre for questioning.
