Graffiti repubblicani a Coleraine e tentato incendio contro l’Orange Hall di GLenavy in due separati attacchi
La Loughanreagh Orange Hall situata nella zona di Newmills Road a Coleraine, Contea di Londonderry, è stata imbrattata di graffiti repubblicani durante la notte.
Il Vice Maestro Distrettuale del Distretto numero 2 di Coleraine, George Duddy, ha condannato le azioni dei responsabili.
“Questa è la prima volta che Loughanreagh è stata sottoposta a tale odio settario e siamo perplessi sul motivo per cui l’edificio è stato preso di mira”, ha affermato.
“La sala si trova in una zona prevalentemente lealista ma si rivolge a tutta la comunità di Coleraine. Infatti, i membri di una bocciofila intercomunitaria utilizzano regolarmente le strutture.
“È chiaro che chi si impegna in tali attività non ha alcun rispetto o tolleranza per un diverso punto di vista”.
In precedenza, nella notte di martedì, c’è stato il tentativo di incendiare una Orange Hall situata in Garlandstown Road a Glenavy, Contea di Antrim-
Un cancello sarebbe stato rubato e utilizzato come scala per accedere al tetto, dove i responsabili dell’attacco hanno cercato di appiccare un incendio.
Il consigliere SDLP per Antrim, Thomas Burns, ha condannato l’attacco, che, dice, è l’ultimo di una serie di episodi simili avvenuti nella zona.
“Purtroppo, mi sembra una coincidenza eccessiva che questo giunga dopo un attacco simile contro un’altra Orange Hall a Glenavy e dopo le bombe di vernice lanciate contro il Cenotafio, sempre a Glenavy, di qualche settimana fa”, ha spiegato.
“Questo non fa nulla per aiutare le relazioni comunitarie nella zona, ma sono contento, parlando questa mattina con molte persone di tutte le comunità, che la gente si rende conto che non è la manifestazione delle convinzioni di un grande gruppo di persone, ma piuttosto la manifestazione di individui meschini che non hanno nulla di positivo da offrire alle loro famiglie e ai loro vicini di casa nell’intera comunità”.

Two attacks on Orange Halls
An Orange Hall in Coleraine has been sprayed with graffiti a day after a separate attack in Glenavy.
Loughanreagh Orange Hall in the Newmills Road area of Coleraine, Co Londonderry, was daubed with republican graffiti overnight.
Deputy District Master of Coleraine District No 2, George Duddy has condemned the actions of those responsible.
“This is the first time Loughanreagh has ever been subjected to such sectarian hatred and we are just bemused as to why the property was targeted,” he said.
“The hall is located in a predominantly loyalist area but caters for all of the community in Coleraine. Indeed, members of a cross-community bowling club use the facilities on a regular basis.”
“It is clear those that engage in such activities have no respect or tolerance for a differing viewpoint.”
It follows an attempted arson attack to Fourscore Orange Hall overnight on Tuesday in the Garlandstown Road area of Glenavy, Co Antrim.
It is believed a gate was stolen and used as a ladder to access the roof where an attempt to set the roof alight was made.
SDLP Antrim Councillor Thomas Burns condemned the attack, which he says is the latest in a line of similar incidents in the area.
“Unfortunately, it seems to me to be too much of a coincidence that this comes after a similar attack on another Orange Hall in Glenavy and the paint-bombing of the Cenotaph in Glenavy a few weeks ago,” he said.
“This does nothing to help community relations in the area, but I’m glad, speaking to many people right across the community this morning, that people realise this is not the manifestation of the beliefs of a large group of people but rather the manifestation of narrow-minded individuals that have nothing positive to offer their families, their neighbours of community at large.”
