La polizia sta indagando sul danneggiamento di 30 automobili parcheggiate in un’area protestante a Derry
Il parlamentare DUP William Hay ritiene si sia trattato di un attacco settario.
Lynn Fleming, eletta nel consiglio di Derry come rappresentante del Waterside per lo Sinn Fein, afferma che i responsabili non rappresentano la comunità nazionalista.
Alison McMorris, la cui vettura è stata danneggiata nell’attacco, parla di “disgrazia”.
“Hanno fatto migliaia e migliaia di sterline di danni. Come possiamo avere pace se queste cose continuano?” ha affermato.
“Ritengo sia stato qualcuno dall’altra parte, dalla cima della collina (dal quartiere nazionalista di Creggan, Ndt).
“Hanno danneggiato tutto lassù, bruciando cassonetti dell’immondizia e tutto il resto.
“E’ gente innocente che lavora duro”.
Per Hay non è il primo incidente del genere.
“Ci sono stati continui attacchi nella zona, dove la gente penetra a tarda notte e se ne vanno come ladri”, ha affermato.
“Questo sembra avere i segni di un attacco settario”.
Anche i nazonalisti residenti nel Waterside, secondo Fleming, stanno soffrendo.
“Ci sono stati alcuni attacchi nella nostra area diretti contro i residenti”, ha affermato.
“Sfortunatamente c’è un piccolo gruppo che provoca disordine assoluto.
“Questa gente non è rappresentativa della comunità”.

‘Sectarian’ attack on 30 vehicles in Londonderry
Police are investigating damage caused to 30 cars parked in a mainly Protestant area of Londonderry at the weekend.
DUP MLA William Hay said he believed it was a sectarian attack.
Sinn Fein councillor for the Waterside Lynn Fleming said those responsible did not represent the Nationalist community.
Alison McMorris, who had her car damaged in the attack, said the attack was a “disgrace”.
“Thousands and thousands of pounds of damage has been done. How can we have peace when we have this going on?” she said.
“I do believe it was ones from the other side, the top of the hill.
“They’ve damaged their own up there, burning wheelie bins and everything else.
“It’s innocent people, hard working people they have done the damage to this time.”
Mr Hay said this was not the first such incident.
“There have been ongoing attacks within the area where people are coming into the area late at night and leaving like thieves,” he said.
“It seems to have all the hallmarks of a sectarian attack.”
Councillor Flemming said residents in Nationalist areas of the Waterside were also suffering.
“There have been a number of incidents in our own area directed at local residents,” she said.
“Unfortunately, there has been a small group causing absolute mayhem.
“These people are not representative of the community.”
