Attacco settario contro negozi a Dundrum

Dundrum

Dundrum businesses targeted in sectarian attack

Bricks have been thrown through the window of five business premises in Dundrum, Co Down in a sectarian attack overnight.

The windows of the properties in the Main Street area of the village were smashed sometime around 3.30am on Monday.

Police have said initial investigations indicate the incidents are hate motivated.

MLA Jim Wells condemned the attack, saying: “I am appalled to learn of the blatant sectarian attacks on Protestant businesses in the village of Dundrum.

“Five businesses were damaged in what was clearly a planned attempt to disrupt Protestant owned shops.

“The poor summer weather has had an impact on trading in this coastal village and the last thing the business community in Dundrum needs is this particularly nasty incident.

“Dundrum is a very mixed community and local residents will be appalled by what has happened.”

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the Main Street area during the early hours of this morning and witnessed the incidents to contact officers in Newcastle Police Station on the non-emergency number 101.
