Tuttavia, il più grande successo statistico è stato il dimezzamento dei morti per incidenti stradali nella regione.
Il numero delle violenze non domestiche con lesioni è ridotto dell’11,9% mentre il numero di furti non domestici sono scesi del 14,8%.
Le cifre, a partire dalla fine del terzo trimestre del 2010/2011, illustrano le prestazioni di polizia contro il Policing Plan 2010/11.
Il Chief Constable Matt Baggott ha dichiarato: “La PSNI ha le cifre più basse di crimine globale rispetto ai similari servizi di polizia nel Regno Unito.
“Più di 600 agenti supplementari sono stati assegnati ai ruoli di prima linea nei quartieri e alla risposta di polizia (dal giugno 2009); questo aumento ha superato l’obiettivo fissato dal Policing Board stesso”.
Tuttavia, ha ammesso che è necessario un miglioramento nei rapporti con i crimini derivanti dall’odio.
“Funzionari dedicati al crimine dovuto all’odio e alla gestione dei minori in ciascun Distretto svolgeranno un ruolo chiave nel migliorare le prestazioni in questo settore. Le Agenzie di Sicurezza Comunitaria stanno anche rivedendo i metodi di segnalazione dei crimini dovuti all’odio al fine di facilitare il rapporto online o tramite una terza parte”, ha affermato il comandante della PSNI.
Baggott vorrebbe anche vedere una riduzione nel numero dei furti.
“C’è stata una riduzione di furti con scasso domestico (-6,6%), ma ci piacerebbe vedere una maggiore riduzione in questo settore. Tutti i distretti hanno effettuato una vasta gamma di operazioni anti-furto con scasso nelle settimane prima di Natale. Attraverso l’Operazione Auguri Stagionali (Operation Season Greetings) ci sono stati 44 arresti e 20 accuse di furto con scasso. Le operazioni di prevenzione della criminalità continuerà nelle aree geografiche dove sono avvenuti ripetuti furti con scasso”, ha proseguito Baggott.
Parlando sulla riduzione delle vittime della strada, ha detto che “un solo morto è uno di troppo”, prima di aggiungere che la PSNI “continuerà le operazioni ad alto profilo di polizia stradale e di interventi educativi tra cui il Roadshow Roadsafe per coloro che iniziano la loro carriera di guidatori e i programmi Speed Awareness (Sensibilizzazione sulla Velocità) e i Corsi per Giovani Automobilisti chi sarà osservato viaggiare a velocità inferiore ai limiti”.
Ha affermato che i suoi ufficiali hanno lavorato “sullo sfondo di una grave minaccia terrorista”.
“Continueremo ad ascoltare la comunità e ci concentreremo sulla loro esperienza sia come vittime di reati o come quartieri colpiti dalla criminalità. Il Police Service of Northern Ireland si è impegnata a fornire al pubblico il servizio di polizia personale, professionale e protettivo che meritano”.

Sectarian crime detection up in NI
Sectarian crime detections have increased by 12.4% in Northern Ireland, the police announced on Thursday, while the detection rate target for racist and homophobic hate crimes has not been met.
However, the biggest statistical success has been the halving of road fatalities on the region’s roads.
The number of non-domestic violence with injury crimes is 11.9% lower as is the number of non-domestic burglaries which fell by 14.8%.
The figures, as of the end of the third quarter of 2010/2011, detail the police performance against the 2010/11 Policing Plan.
Chief Constable Matt Baggott said: “The PSNI has the lowest overall crime figures compared to its most similar police services in the United Kingdom.
“Over 600 additional officers have been assigned to frontline neighbourhood and response policing roles (since June 2009); this increase has exceeded the target set by the Board.”
However, he admitted that an improvement is needed in dealing with hate crime.
“Dedicated Hate Incident and Minority Liaison Officers in each District will play a key role in improving performance in this area. Community Safety Branch are also reviewing the methods of hate crime reporting with a view to making it easier to report online or through a third party,” Chief Cons Baggott said.
The police chief would like to see the number of burglaries lowered, also.
“There has been a reduction in domestic burglaries (-6.6%) but we would like to see a greater reduction in this area. All Districts carried out a wide range of anti-burglary operations in the weeks before Christmas. Through Operation Seasons Greetings there were 44 arrests and 20 charges for burglary. Crime prevention operations will continue in geographic locations of repeat burglary,” he said.
Speaking on the reduction of road deaths, he said “one death is one too many,” before adding that the PSNI will “continue our high profile road policing operations and educational interventions including the Roadsafe Roadshows for those starting off on their motoring career and the Speed Awareness and Young Driver Courses for those detected speeding at the lower threshold.”
He said his officers worked “against the backdrop of a severe terrorist threat.”
“We will continue to listen to the community and focus on their experiences whether as victims of crime or neighbourhoods affected by crime.
