Aumentano le denunce contro la PSNI

I numeri emergono da un sondaggio della BBC sulle denunce contro la polizia. La BBC ha richiesto l’informazione a 52 forze di polizia in tutto il Regno Unito. Le risposte giunte in redazione sono state 43.

Le cifre della PSNI sono le più alte tra quelle che hanno fornito le statistiche.

In risposta, la PSNI ha detto di essere “il servizio di polizia più responsabile del mondo”.

“Siamo preoccupati del numero di denunce contro gli agenti e notiamo che, secondo il sondaggio di BBC, la PSNI ha il più alto numero di poliziotti con tre o più denunce”, afferma.

“Prendiamo le denunce contro la polizia, che si tratti di una denuncia individuale o in alternativa di un ufficiale che riceve una serie di denunce, molto sul serio e stiamo attualmente sviluppando una strategia proattiva di riduzione delle denunce per garantire che le aree specifiche di aumento siano identificati e affrontati.

“Questa è stata identificata come una priorità per il Service Excellence Programme Board della PSNI che porterà avanti una serie di impegni di polizia nel corso di quest’anno che illustreranno il livello di servizio che la popolazione si può aspettare quando tratta con la polizia.”

In tutto, l’indagine ha rilevato che più di 2.000 agenti di tutto il Regno Unito sono stati denunciati tre o più volte.

Ci sono state un totale di 5.069 accuse contro gli ufficiali.

I dati, ottenuti attraverso un Freedom of Information Act, non contengono dettagli su quante denunce sono state motivate.

Nel mese di luglio, il Police Ombudsman Al Hutchinson ha detto che il numero di reclami riguardo ai comportamenti dei funzionari di polizia era al livello più alto degli ultimi otto anni.

Le accuse sono state 3.500 con un aumento del 14% rispetto all’anno precedente.

PSNI has most multiple complaints, survey says

Three hundred and seventy six police officers in Northern Ireland have been the subject of three or more allegations from members of the public.

The figure emerged in a BBC survey about police complaints. The BBC requested the information from 52 UK police forces, 43 of which responded.

The PSNI figure is the highest of those which provided statistics.

In response, the PSNI said it was “the most accountable police service in the world”.

“We are concerned at the number of complaints against police officers and note that according to the BBC survey the PSNI have the highest number of officers with three or more complaints,” it said.

“We take complaints against police, whether they are an individual complaint or alternatively an officer receiving a number of complaints, extremely seriously and we are currently developing a proactive complaint reduction strategy to ensure that specific areas of increase are identified and addressed.

“This has been identified as a priority for the PSNI’s Service Excellence Programme Board who will bring forward a set of policing commitments later this year that will outline the level of service members of the public can expect when dealing with the police.”

In all, the survey found that more than 2,000 officers across the UK have been complained about three or more times.

There were a total of 5,069 allegations against officers.

The figures, obtained through a Freedom of Information request, do not contain details of how many of the complaints were substantiated.

In July, Northern Ireland’s Police Ombudsman Al Hutchinson said the number of complaints about police officers’ conduct was at its highest level in eight years.

The 3,500 allegations were an increase of 14% on the previous year.
