Agenti della PSNI sono stati chiamati nella zona di York Road prima delle 13:00 di ieri dopo aver ricevuto una relazione di disordini che coinvolgevano l’uomo considerato il leader UDA nella zona ed un amico di Andre Shoukri.
Fonti lealiste nella zona parlano di dure parole scambiate tra i due uomini fuori dalla casa della madre di uno di loro, prima che avvenisse un breve scontro fisico.
“Qualcosa è stato detto e poi c’è stata una risposta e poi si sono confrontati e hanno avuto uno scontro”, ha detto una fonte locale.
In pochi minuti quattro Land Rover della polizia sono arrivate nella zona.
John Bunting, collegato con la fazione dell’Inner Council di UDA, in seguito ha presentato una denuncia alla polizia per aggressione e gli ufficiali hanno arrestato un uomo per sottoporlo ad interrogatorio.
In una dichiarazione di ieri, un portavoce della PSNI ha dichiarato: “A North Belfast la polizia ha arrestato un uomo di 49 anni, sospettato di danneggiamento criminale, aggressione e minacce”.
Tensions rise among UDA factions in north Belfast after ‘tussle’ in street
PSNI officers were called to the York Road area before 1pm yesterday afternoon after receiving a report of a disturbance involving the man regarded as the UDA leader in the area and a friend of Andre Shoukri.
Loyalist sources in the area say words were exchanged between the two men outside the home of the mother of one of them before a brief physical confrontation took place.
“Something was said and then there was a response and then they squared up and a tussle developed,” one local source said.
Within minutes four police Land Rovers arrived into the area.
It’s understood that John Bunting, who is linked with the ‘inner council’ faction of the UDA, later made a complaint to police that he was assaulted and officers arrested a man for questioning.
In a statement yesterday, a PSNI spokesman said: “Police in north Belfast have arrested a 49-year-old man on suspicion of criminal damage, assault and making threats.”
