Il governo australiano ha emesso un allarme per chi vuol recarsi in Irlanda del Nord dopo i tre attacchi esplosivi avvenuti questo mese.
Due bombe sono state disinnescate nella Contea di Down il 4 e 8 agosto ed un’autobomba è esplosa fuori da una stazione di polizia a Derry il 3 agosto.
I viaggiatori australiani verso il Nordirlanda sono stati avvertiti di un incremento dell’attività repubblicana e gli è stato comunicato di stare lontani da proteste e dimostrazioni che “potrebbero sfociare in violenza”.
L’Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (Ministero degli Affari e del Commercio Estero) ha avvisato i cittadini degli attacchi bomba contro la polizia e gli obiettivi militari, affermando: “Gli australiani potrebbero venire presi inavvertitamente in atti di violenza diretta contro altri”.
Il ministero ha detto agli australiani di “evitare tutte le proteste e le dimostrazioni che potrebbero sfociare in violenza”.
Anche l’United States Bureau of Consular Affairs (Ufficio degli Affari Consolari degli Stati Uniti) ha detto: “I cittadini statunitensi che stano viaggianfo in Irlanda del Nord dovrebbero restare attenti a ciò che li circonda e dovrebbero essere coscienti qualora scegliessero di visitare potenziali luoghi caldi o parate, in quanto la violenza sporadica resta una possibilità”.
L’ufficio ha anche ricordato come le dimostrazioni ritenute pacifiche potrebbero trasformarsi e accrescere la loro violenza.
“I cittadini statunitensi sono quindi allertati ad evitare le aree delle manifestazioni, se possibile, e di essere cauti quando si trovano nei pressi di qualsiasi manifestazione”.
Infine anche il New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ministero degli Affari Esteri della Nuova Zelanda) ha messo in guardia i cittadini sul viaggiare verso l’Irlanda del Nord, affermando che le parate annuali – in svolgimento nel periodo tra aprile ed agosto – “hanno il potenziale per diventare violente e vi raccomandiamo di evitarle”.
Nel novembre 2009 la Independent Monitoring Commission (IMC) aveva comunicato che la minaccia repubblicana in Irlanda del Nord era al livello massimo degli ultimi sei anni.
Secondo la Commissione i due principali gruppi repubblicani, la Real IRA ed il Continuity IRA, stavano aumentando la minaccia contro le forze di sicurezza.

Tourists warned about travel to NI
The Australian government has issued a travel warning for Northern Ireland following three bomb attacks this month.
Two bombs were defused in Co Down on August 4th and 8th and a car bomb exploded outside a police station in Derry on the 3rd.
Australian travellers to the North are being warned of an increase in dissident activity, with visitors advised to avoid protests and demonstrations “as they may turn violent”.
The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade warned citizens of bomb attacks aimed at police and military targets saying: “Australians could inadvertently be caught up in violence directed at others.”
The department also advised Australians to “avoid all protests and demonstrations as they may turn violent”.
The United States Bureau of Consular Affairs said: “US citizens travelling to Northern Ireland should remain alert to their surroundings and should be aware that if they choose to visit potential flashpoints or attend parades, sporadic violence remains a possibility.”
The department warned travellers that demonstrations intended to be peaceful could turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence.
“US citizens are therefore urged to avoid the areas of demonstrations if possible and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of any demonstrations.”
The New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also warned its citizens about travelling to Northern Ireland saying the annual parades which occur during the period of April to August “have the potential to turn violent and we recommend you avoid them”.
In November 2009, the Independent Monitoring Commission (IMC) reported the dissident republican threat in Northern Ireland was at its highest level in six years.
The IMC reported the two main dissident republican groups, the Real IRA and the Continuity IRA, were increasing the threat posed to security forces.
