Azione legale della famiglia Finucane contro il governo inglese
Finucane family to launch legal bid
The family of murdered Belfast solicitor Pat Finucane have confirmed they intend to take legal action against the British Government over the refusal to hold a full public inquiry into his killing.
Mr Finucane was shot dead in front of his wife and three children in February 1989 – the UFF admitted responsibility, but there have been accusations that the paramilitary group colluded with the security forces over the killing.
In October the Finucane family met with Prime minister David Cameron at Downing Street, where he informed them that he would not be holding a public inquiry into the murder.
Instead, Mr Cameron ordered a review of the papers in the case by Sir Desmond de Silva QC.
On Wednesday the Finucane family issued a statement confirming that they intend to launch a challenge to that decision in the courts.
“Not for the first time have we had to resort to legal proceedings to vindicate our legal rights,” Mr Finucane’s widow Gerladine said on Wednesday.
“It is clear that the British Government have cynically reneged on the commitment made at Weston Park.
“The Cameron decision is also incompatible with Article 2 of the European Convention on Human Rights (the right to life ).
“We take the view that the decision not to hold a public judicial inquiry is just another obstacle which we will have to overcome.
“We are determined to get to the truth surrounding my husband’s murder. Our campaign will continue.”
