L’ex abitazione di una famiglia cattolica, costretta ad abbandonarla dopo un altro attacco settario, è stata nuovamente presa di mira, dopo che era stata destinata ad ospitare una donna cattolica.
Padraig McShane, consigliere indipendente, ha detto che settimana scorsa le parole “Taigs Out” (Via i cattolici, Ndt) sono state scritte sul muro dell’abitazione in Islandarragh Road, vicino a Ballycastle.
A ottobre ci furono condanne unanimi per l’incendio di una vettura parcheggiata all’esterno della stessa casa.
Le fiamme danneggiarono la vicina abitazione.
Anche in quell’occasione le parole “Taigs Out” furono dipinte sul muro della casa (Taig è un termine dispregiativo con cui i lealisti indicano i cattolici, Ndt).
Una coppia di ventenni e con il figlio si trovavano all’interno della casa.
McShane ha detto che la casa è stata recentemente consegnata ad una donna cattolica proveniente da North Antrim ma prima che potesse traslocare è giunto questo nuovo attacco settario.
Secondo la polizia il graffito è comparso tra lunedì 1 e martedì 2 dicembre.
Per Padraig McShane l’UDA (Ulster Defence Association, Ndt) è coinvolta in questi attacchi.
“Gli affiliati dell’UDA vogliono influenzare l’assegnazione degli alloggi con l’uso della forza bruta, di insinuazioni settarie e tentativi di instillare la paura nella comunità”, prosegue il politico indipendente.
“Questo è semplicemente un tentativo di aggirare il sistema di assegnazione case reso facile dal fatto che Housing Executive ha avuto l’audacia di destinare l’abitazione ad una donna cattolica mentre i protestanti sono rimasti sulla lista di attesa”.
Un portavoce della PSNI ha detto la polizia sta indagando sul graffito settario, che viene trattato come un crimine di odio.

Second sectarian graffiti attack carried out at house
The former home of a Catholic family forced to flee after a sectarian attack has been targeted for a second time after it was re-allocated to a Catholic woman, it has been claimed.
Local independent councillor Padraig McShane said the words ‘Taig’s Out’ were sprayed on a wall at the house at Islandarragh Road, Cape Castle, which is close to Ballycastle last week.
There was condemnation earlier this year when a car parked outside the same house was set alight.
Flames from the blaze caused damage to the nearby house.
The words ‘Taig’s Out’ were also sprayed on the gable wall of the house on that occasion.
A couple in their 20s and a baby who were in the house at the time escaped injury.
Mr McShane said the house was recently re-allocated to a Catholic woman from the north Antrim area but before she could move in it was targeted for a second time.
Police say the graffiti appeared sometime between Monday December 1 and Tuesday December 2.
Mr McShane said the UDA is linked to the attacks.
“The UDA affiliates have the clout to alter the allocation of homes through brute force, sectarian innuendo and attempts to instil fear in the community,” he said.
“This is simply an attempt to circumvent the homes allocation system made easy by the fact the Housing Executive had the audacity to allocate to a Catholic while Protestants remained on the housing list.”
A spokesman for PSNI said police are investigating said the graffiti was sectarian and is being treated as a hate crime.
