Barry Petticrew in tribunale dopo ritrovamento esplosivi

Man in court over explosives haul

Ricerche a Kinawley

A man has appeared in court on terrorism charges linked to the seizure of explosives and ammunition at a farm in Co Fermanagh, recovered during a four-day operation.

Barry Francis Petticrew, 43 and from the Drumbroghas area of Swanlinbar in Co Cavan, spoke only to confirm that he understood the charges against him.

He is accused of possessing improvised explosive devices and their components and ammunition with intent to endanger life, and possession of articles likely to be of use to terrorists.

The charges arise out of the recovery of 500 kilos of home-made explosives, six pipe bombs, a firearm and 100 rounds of ammunition, as well as timer units, detonators, forensic suits and gloves.

The discovery was made at the farm in a rural area of Kinawley, near the border.

At the time, police said the items recovered had “the potential to cause injury, damage, and death”.

During Monday’s proceedings at Enniskillen Magistrates’ Court, a detective constable said that police believed they could connect Petticrew to the charges.

No bail application was made and District Judge Nigel Broderick remanded the accused into custody until 10 November, when he is due to appear before the court via video link.

Traffic was stopped in Enniskillen town centre by armed police to allow the custody van carrying the accused to leave the court complex.
