La BBC si scusa per la gaffe fatta durante la puntata di mercoledì di Question Time, dove il ministro di Stormont è stato etichettato come membro dello “Sinn Fein/IRA”.
L’appellativo a John O’Dowd, ospite della trasmissione televisiva da Belfast, era stato dato sul cartellino con lo schema dei posti a sedere attaccato su una telecamera.
Non è stato mandato in onda, ma un membro del pubblico ha twittato la fotografia dello schema.
O’Dowd ha spiegato che “l’etichetta SF/IRA” era stata usata durante i Troubles “per giustificare gli attacchi contro i membri dello Sinn Fein e le nostre famiglie”.
Il ministro dell’Istruzione dello Sinn Fein, ha dichiarato: “Per la BBC di adottare tale etichetta 20 anni dopo il processo di pace è incredibile”.
La BBC ha ammesso l’etichetta usata era “insensibile e ingenua”.
Ha rilasciato una dichiarazione in cui spiega che “la BBC è molto dispiaciuta per qualsiasi offesa provocata. La nota è stata scritta da un membro del personale tecnico per proprio uso.
“Non è stato autorizzato o avallato da qualcuno di Question Time.
“Al responsabile è chiaramente spiegato che il cartello era inopportuno, insensibile ed estremamente ingenuo.
“Siamo certi che agli spettatori del programma di ieri sera è chiaro che questa nota non ha avuto assolutamente alcuna influenza sul contenuto della trasmissione”.
Nello schema si leggeva anche che il Democratic Unionist Party, rappresentato nel programma da Ian Paisley Jr, era stato etichettato come “i buoni”.

Mr O’Dowd said the “SF/IRA tag” had been used during the Troubles to “justify attacks on Sinn Fein members and our families”.
The Sinn Fein Education Minister said: “For the BBC to adopt the tag 20 years into a peace process is beyond belief.”
The BBC admitted the wording was “insensitive and naive”.
A statement said: “The BBC is very sorry for any offence caused. “The note was written by one of the technical staff on the programme for his own use.
“It was not authorised or endorsed by anyone on Question Time.
“The person responsible has been left in no doubt that it was inappropriate, insensitive and extremely naive.
“We are sure viewers of last night’s programme will be clear that this note had absolutely no bearing on the content of the show.”
The seating plan also appeared to refer to the Democratic Unionist Party, which was represented on the programme by Ian Paisley Jnr, as “Goodies”.
