Belfast: autobus oggetto di attacco settario

La madre di un alunno di 12 anni, che era a bordo dell’autobus attaccato questa mattina con mattoni e pietre, pensa sia stato assalito perché a bordo c’erano gli studenti di una scuola protestante

“Questo è il motivo per cui è stato attaccato, non c’è alcun dubbio sulla questione”, dice la donna.

Un amico del figlio della signora Moody, alunno della scuola Boys Model di Belfast, è stato colpito da un mattone che gli ha lasciato una brutta ferita sul volto, mentre l’autobus percorreva Oldpark Road.

Non sarebbe il primo attacco contro l’autobus.

La Moody ha aggiunto: “Pensava (gli aggressori) stessero per salire sull’autobus per prenderlo… ha 12 anni e non capisce che la gente è così disposta a ferire la gente in quel modo… al momento è confuso – perché – perché l’hanno fatto”.

Reazione

Michel Dornan della Unite ha chiamato gli assalitori “teppisti senza cervello” che hanno messo in pericolo vite umane. Ha anche affermato che gli autisti sono furiosi.

“E’ una prova terribile per tutti quelli coinvolti. Sfortunatamente questi fatti sono già accaduti negli anni – è assolutamente terribile”.

Dornan parla di problema continuativo che ha bisogno di essere affrontato urgentemente.

“I guidatori hanno avuto i finestrini infranti quotidianamente. Sta continuando. A volte mettiamo le nostre vite in pericolo facendo il nostro lavoro”.

Per Dornan gli autisti non sono pronti a mettere a rischio le proprie vite.

“Potenzialmente si tratta di tentato omicidio – se l’autista è ferito, le conseguenze di un autobus fuori controllo possono essere le ferite o gli incidenti mortali per le persone all’interno o per chi si trova all’esterno.

“E qualcuno deve assumersi la responsabilità di prenderlo a bordo e cercare di fermarlo”.

North Belfast bus attack ‘sectarian’

A mother of a 12 year old schoolboy who was a passenger on a bus attacked with bricks and stones on Wednesday believes it was targeted because there were children from a predominantly protestant school on board.

“That’s exactly why it was targeted, there is no doubt that is the issue here”, she said.

Mrs Moody’s sons’ friend, a pupil at the Boys Model in Belfast, was hit with a brick and sustained a bad cut to his face as the bus made its way along the Oldpark Road on Wednesday.

It is understood this is not the first time the bus has been targeted.

Mrs Mooney added, “He thought they were going to get on the bus to get him … he is 12 years old he doesn’t understand that people are just so set out to hurt people that way … he’s just baffled at the minute – why – why they would do it.”

Reaction

Michael Dornan from Unite called the perpetrators “mindless thugs” who were endangering lives and said that bus drivers were angry.

“It’s a terrible ordeal for all concerned. Unfortunately these events have happened over the years – it’s absolutely dreadful.”

He said that it was an ongoing problem that needed to be addressed urgently.

“Drivers suffer broken windows at times on a daily basis. It has been ongoing. At times we put our lives in danger to do our job.”

Mr Dornan said that drivers were not prepared to keep putting their lives on the line.

“It’s potentially attempted murder – if the driver is injured the consequences of that bus out of control could be serious injuries or fatalities to people inside and innocent bystanders.

“And someone needs to take responsibility of taking it on board and trying to get it stopped.”
