Bernadette McAliskey era all’inaugurazione della mostra “After Saville” presso il Pilot’s Row Centre, dove ha fatto il suo appello per un museo che illustri la “cultura di resistenta e di capacità di recupero” della città.
Secondo il Derry Journal la McAliskey ha detto: “Credo che Derry debba pensare seriamente a creare un museo apposito dove ospitare le storie della popolazione attraverso le loro memorabilia.
“Ci sono belli edifici in città che potrebbero essere convertiti nel corso delle costruzioni per la Città della Cultura 2013. Vorremmo celebrare la cultura di resistenza e la capacità di recupero dalle ingiustizie che sono state una parte così importante per questa comunità”.
La mostra After Saville è realizzata basandosi sul Rapporto Saville, conosciuto anche come Bloody Sunday Inquiry, pubblica a giugno.
Former MP calls for a Derry resistance museum
Bernadette McAliskey was at the launch of the After Saville exhibition at the city’s Pilot’s Row Centre, where she made the call for a designated museum to showcase the city’s “culture of resistance and resilience”.
According to the Derry Journal, McAliskey said: “I think that Derry should seriously look into creating a specific museum to house the people’s story through their own memorabilia.
“There are plenty of beautiful buildings in the city that could be converted in the build-up to the City of Culture 2013. We ought to be celebrating the culture of resistance and resilience to injustice that has been such an important part of this community.”
The After Saville exhibition was based on the Saville Report, also known as the Bloody Sunday Inquiry, published in June this year.
