Il sito dell’Orange Order viene bannato dalle scuole nordirlandesi tramite il software di censura
La ragione fornita dal network è: “Questo sito Internet è stato catalogato come Religioso Non Tradizionale e Occulto e Folklore”.
C2K fornisce le infrastrutture ed i servizi per l’Information Computer Technology nelle scuole.
Una lettera è stata cnsegnata al Comitato Educativo di Stormont da David Scott, funzionario per l’educazione della Gran Loggia d’Irlanda. Nella sua lettera si legge: “Scrivo per esprimere la preoccupazione della Gran Loggia orangista sul blocco del nostro sito Internet nel sistema scolastico.
“Gradirei se poteste avvisarmi delle ragioni per cui l’accesso al sito della Gran Loggia d’Irlanda viene negato, chi ha preso la decisione e perché non siamo stati informati della situazione”.
Diamond Dan
Il presidente del Comitato Educativo Mervyn Storey ha suggerito che a Scott venga consentito discutere con il comitato e la sua proposta viene appoggiata anche da David mcNarry e Jo-Anne Dobson.
C2K è gestito dal Western Education and Library Board per conto di altri consigli educativi e del Dipartimento dell’Educazione.
L’Orange Order ha cercato negli ultimi anni di scuotere via l’immagine negativa, creando un’immagine familiare con eventi come la Orangefest e creando personaggi come Diamond Dan, il super eroe orangista.
Il sito Internet comprende una sezione di beneficienza e un’area educativa dove è possibile conoscere la storia dell’Ordine.
Il software C2K filtra in maniera automatica i siti Internet non idonei, ma ogni autorità scolastica può chiedere di ottenere l’accesso ad alcuni siti.

Orange Order website blocked from schools
The Orange Order’s website has been banned from Northern Ireland school by censoring software.
The reason given by the network is: “This website has been categorised as Non-Traditional Religious and Occult and Folklore.”
C2K provides the infrastructure and services to support Information Computer Technology in schools.
A letter was presented to the Stormont Education Committee from David Scott, community education officer for the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland. In his letter he said: “I am writing to express the concern of the Grand Orange Lodge that our website has apparently been blocked in the school system.
“I would appreciate if you could advise me of the reasons why access to our Grand Lodge of Ireland site has been denied, who took the decision to deny access and why we were not informed of this situation.”
Diamond Dan
Chairman of the Education Committee, Mervyn Storey suggested that Mr Scott be allowed to address the committee and this was supported by David McNarry and Jo-Anne Dobson.
C2k is managed by the Western Education and Library Board on behalf of the other education and library boards and the Department of Education.
The Orange Order has tried in recent years to shake off any negative image by creating a more family friendly image with events such as Orangefest and creating characters such as Diamond Dan, the superhero Orange Man.
The website includes a charity section and an education area where you can learn more about the history of the order.
The C2K software automatically filters out unsuitable websites but individual school authorities can apply to have access granted to certain sites.
