Bomb explodes in east Belfast
A bomb has exploded underneath a car in east Belfast.
The area around the property at Kingsdale Park has been cordoned off and the Gilnahirk Road has been closed.
It is understood that the intended target may have been an off-duty member of the security forces but a woman without any security force connections had just got into the car to drive off when the device triggered.
An ambulance was called to the scene to take her to hospital.
She was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
One neighbour said they had been woken by a loud bang on Friday morning.
Army bomb experts are at the scene and the area has been sealed off by police.
The Policing Board’s Ian Paisley Junior has condemned the attack.
“This is a very serious development, it clearly shows the intent of those responsible.”
“If it turns out to be dissident republicans, it confirms the view that they’re prepared to go to any length to either kill a police officer or someone else in the community to make their point,” he said.
