Bomba sotto la vettura di un soldato a Bangor

Un soldato in servizio è stato fatto oggetto di un attacco per mezzodi una bomba posizionata sotto alla sua vettura

Un’esplosione controllata è stata eseguita dagli artificieri dell’esercito, per mettere fuori uso l’ordigno piazzato sotto alla vettura nella zona di Chatsworth a Bangor, vicino a Gransha Road.

L’ordigno è stato scoperto dall’uomo mentre lasciava la sua abitazione, perché l’ordigno si è staccato dalla vettura.

Numerose abitazioni sono state evacuate.

Peter Weir, parlamentare del DUP per North Down, ha condannato i responsabili dell’attacco, fatto con “lo scopo di uccidere”.

Ha aggiunto: “Questi terroristi non hanno sostegno nella comunità.

“In questo momento, i pensieri di tutti vanno al soldato ed alla sua famiglia, divenuta l’obiettivo di questi criminali fuorilegge”.

Il parlamentare dell’UUP Alan McFarland ha ribadito: “E’ ovviamente disturbante che la minaccia dei dissidenti si sposti dalle grandi città, dove tendevano ad operare.

“E’ la prima volta che sono giunti in aree provinciali come Bangor”.

Il consigliere Tony Hill, Alliance Party, ha detto che questo genere di attacchi sembrano essere in aumento.

“E’ molto allarmante. Chiedo alla polizia di fare tutto quello che possono e aumentare i loro sforzi per prendere le persone coinvolte”.

Soldier targeted in car bomb attack

A serving soldier has been targeted in a booby-trap car bomb attack in Co Down, UTV understands.

A controlled explosion has been carried out by army experts on the device planted under a vehicle in the Chatsworth area of Bangor, off the Gransha Road.

The device was discovered by the driver as he was about to leave home, when it fell off his car.

Several nearby homes have been evacuated.

DUP MLA for North Down Peter Weir condemned those responsible for the attack, who he said were “intent on murder”.

He added: “These terrorists have no support in the community and are beneath contempt.

“At this time, the thoughts of everyone go out to the soldier and his family who have been callously targeted by these lawless criminals.”

Ulster Unionist MLA Alan McFarland said: “It is obviously disturbing in that the threat from dissidents is moving outside the big cities where dissidents have tended to work.

“It is the first time they have went into provincial areas like Bangor.”

Local Alliance Councillor Tony Hill said these types of attacks seem to be escalating.

“It is very alarming. I would call on the police to do what they can and increase their efforts to catch the people involved.”
