Nella serata di martedì 15 agosto la polizia ha dovuto affrontare lievi disordini legati all’accensione del bonfire a Derry.
Bottiglie e pietre sono state lanciate nei pressi delle mura cittadine.
Il Sovrintendente della PSNI McCalmont ha detto che tutto è stato riportato alla calma in poco tempo.
Nel Bogside sono stati dati alle fiamme anche bandiere e corone di papaveri (simbolo dei caduti dell’esercito inglese, ndt).

Lunedì sera c’erano stati scontri nella stessa area, quando i costruttori della pira in legno hanno attaccato i membri della polizia e altri residenti.
Molti abitanti del quartiere repubblicano erano contrari al bonfire, eretto e incendiato dai giovani del Bogside.
L’anno scorso il bonfire venne costruito in mezzo alla strada principale, provocando disagi al traffico.
Quest’anno è stato spostato in una vicina era verde in Lecky Road, sotto alle storiche mura di Derry.

Police deal with ‘minor’ disorder at Derry bonfire
Police have dealt with minor disorder at a controversial bonfire in Derry on Tuesday night.
Bottles and stones were thrown during minor disturbances at the City Walls.
PSNI Superintendent McCalmont said the disorder was brought under control quickly and calm in the area restored.
Poppy wreaths and flags were burned on the republican bonfire in the Bogside.

It came after disorder flared on Monday night as bonfire-builders attacked police and members of the public.
Many residents are opposed to the fire, which is built by local youths.
Last year, the youths built the bonfire in the middle of a main road, causing significant traffic disruption.
This year it has been moved to a nearby grassy bank off Lecky Road, below the city’s historic walls.
