Brendan Conway, POW, brutalizzato dai secondini di Maghaberry

La brutale aggressione e la rituale umiliazione inflitte contro il prigioniero di guerra Brendan Conway da parte di membri della Prison Officers Association è la prova adeguata, se ce ne fosse bisogno, che garantire i basilari diritti umani ai POW repubblicani nelle Sei Contee occupate si sta rivelando un compito troppo arduo per l’organismo settario che controlla il regime.

Mentre si recava in tribunale, a Brendan è stato chiesto di togliersi tutti i vestiti, operazione che si è rifiutato di fare.

Dopo il suo rifiuto, 6 secondini in assetto anti sommossa sono intervenuti e hanno compiuto una strip search (una degradante perquisizione corporale), strappando i vestiti e gli indumenti intimi di Conway.

Tutto è culminato in un brutale assalto, che ha provocato numerose ferite – compresi tagli e contusioni – alle sue gambe, alla testa e ad un occhio, insieme con problemi respiratori dovuti alla pressione applicata dai secondini in determinati punti del collo.

L’apparizione in aula di Brendan è stata quindi cancellata a causa della strip search forzata e il prigioniero è stato riportato nell’ala di Maghaberry.

Il 32 County Sovereignty Movement condanna l’aggressione di Brendan ed il tentativo delle autorità carcerarie di disfare l’accordo che è stato negoziato per far cessare queste pratiche draconiane.

Statement: Maghaberry POW brutalised by POA

The brutal assault and ritual humiliation inflicted on POW Brendan Conway by members of the POA was adequate proof, if any were needed, that granting basic human rights to Republican POWs in the occupied 6 counties is proving a bridge too far for the sectarian body which controls the regime.

On the way to a court appearance, Brendan was asked to remove all his clothing which he refused to do.

Following this refusal, 6 screws in riot gear were drafted in and carried out an enforced strip search ripping the clothes and underwear from his body.

This culminated in a brutal assault resulting in numerous injuries which included cuts and bruises to his legs,his head and eye, together with choking injuries which resulted from screws forcibly applying pressure points to his neck.

Brendan’s court appearance was subsequently cancelled as a result of the enforced strip search and he was returned to the wing.

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement condemn this assault on Brendan and the attempt by the prison authorities to unravel the deal which was negotiated to bring these draconian practices to an end.
