Brian Ervine lascia la guida del PUP

Il leader del Progressive Unionist Party starebbe per dimettersi in seguito alla mancata conquista del seggio alle elezioni per Stormont

Ervine ha fatto sapere che potrebbe tornare al suo precedente lavoro di insegnante per adolescenti con problemi di alfabetizzazione.

L’uomo di East Belfast, il cui fratello David guidò il partito per alcuni anni, fu eletto a capo del PUP lo scorso ottobre.

Prese il posto di John Kyle, leader ad interim dopo le dimissioni di Dawn Purvis.

La donna lasciò la dirigenza del partito unionista per protesta contro l’omicidio di Bobby Moffett compiuto a Shakill Road da membri della UVF – di cui il PUP è l’espressione politica.

I conti pubblicati dalla Commissione Elettorale il mese scorso hanno mostrato come il PUP avesse i conti in rosso per oltre 60.000 euro nell’anno 2010.

PUP leader Brian Ervine to stand down

Progressive Unionist Party leader Brian Ervine is to resign following his failure to win a seat in the assembly elections.

Mr Ervine said he was going so he could return to his former job as a teacher of young adults with literacy problems.

The east Belfast man, whose late brother David led the party for several years, was elected leader last October.

He took over from interim leader Dr John Kyle, who had taken the role after Dawn Purvis quit the party.

She did so in protest at the UVF murder of Belfast man Bobby Moffett.

Accounts published by the Electoral Commission last month showed that the PUP ran a deficit of more than £57,000 last year.
