Il vice primo ministro Martin McGuinness dello Sinn Fein vuole proseguire con il trasferimento della responsabilità politica per giustizia e sicurezza.
Comunque, il primo ministro Peter Robinson del DUP non è pronto a sostenere la devolution perché è preoccupato del livello di supporto della comunità unionista, e per riserve su come verrà finanziato.
McGuinness ha accusato il DUP di tornare indietro rispetto ad importanti parti del Good Friday Agreement e dell’Accordo di St Andrews.
Brown ha già avuto alcuni colloqui con Robinson e McGuinness per discutere l’argomento. Alla conferenza del Labour, svoltasi lunedì, ha affermato di voler vedere il trasferimento di poteri terminare in pochi mesi.
Oggi il Segretario di Stato per l’Irlanda del Nord, Shaun Woodward, ha riferito che importanti nuovi investimenti americani dipendono dal proseguimento del trasferimento dei poteri.

Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness of Sinn Fein wants to press ahead with the transfer of political responsibility for justice and policing matters.
However, First Minister Peter Robinson of the DUP is not prepared to support devolution because of concerns about the level of support for it in the unionist community, and reservations about how it will be funded.
Mr McGuinness has accused the DUP of holding back important parts of the Good Friday and St Andrew’s agreements.
Mr Brown has already held several meetings with Mr Robinson and Mr McGuinness to discuss the issue. At the Labour party conference on Monday, he said he would like to see devolution go ahead within months.
Today, Northern Secretary Shaun Woodward said significant new investment from the US was dependent on devolution going ahead.
