Voglio augurare a tutti un felice e sereno Natale e un buon anno nuovo.
Questo periodo dell’anno è l’occasione per rilassarsi, per trascorrere tempo con la famiglia e gli amici e per godersi il piacere di fare i regali di Natale, soprattutto ai bambini.
Ma è anche importante ricordare tutti coloro per i quali questo Natale sarà difficile e duro – le vittime del recente conflitto e tutti coloro che sono in difficoltà a causa della recessione.
L’Irlanda di oggi, sia a nord che a Sud, è a un bivio.
Le politiche economiche perseguite dai due governi conservatori a Londra e Dublino hanno imposto notevoli disagi ai cittadini.

L’impatto negativo sui servizi pubblici, l’economia e la società nelle due parti di questa isola è evidente. Centinaia di migliaia di cittadini sono disoccupati e l’emigrazione è di nuovo in aumento.
Sinn Fein è un partito repubblicano irlandese. Siamo un partito ‘United Ireland’.
Crediamo che l’unità abbia un senso economico e politico.
Lo Sinn Féin è per l’indipendenza, la sovranità e la libertà del popolo irlandese e per il diritto del nostro popolo di costruire la nostra società.
Lo Sinn Fein si impegna a operare per i cittadini.
Nel perseguimento di questo obiettivo, nel Nord abbiamo concordato un bilancio che mira a proteggere i servizi pubblici cercando nel contempo di far crescere l’economia.
Nonostante tutte le difficoltà, il processo di pace sta andando avanti ed il prossimo maggio l’Esecutivo e l’Assemblea completeranno il loro primo mandato. Questo sarebbe stato considerato impossibile solo pochi anni fa.
Nel Sud, lo Sinn Féin offre l’unica vera alternativa al consenso conservatore. Stiamo proponendo politiche concrete per rigenerare l’economia; una completa riforma politica volta a produrre una forma veramente aperta e responsabile di governo che termina il concetto di élite politica e da maggiori poteri ai cittadini irlandesi; l’uso corretto delle risorse naturali dell’Irlanda per il bene comune; la tutela e la creazione di posti di lavoro; la fine della sanità e dell’ostruzione a due livelli; il costante sostegno al processo di pace, all’Accordo del Venerdì Santo e un’ulteriore avvicinamento alla comunità unionista.

Nel 2011 si presentano sfide significative. Lo Sinn Féin è all’altezza del compito saprà come superarle.
Ma per ora e per i prossimi 10 giorni tutti auguro un felice, sereno e divertente Natale e Capodanno.

Christmas and New Year message from Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams
I want to wish everyone a very happy and peaceful Christmas and a good New Year.
This time of the year is an opportunity to relax, to spend time with family and friends and to enjoy the pleasure Christmas gifts bring, especially to children.
But it is also important that we remember all of those for whom this Christmas will be difficult and tough — victims of the recent conflict as well as all of those who are in dire straits as a result of the recession.
Ireland today, North and South, is at a crossroads.
The economic policies being pursued by two conservative governments in London and Dublin have imposed significant hardship on citizens.

The adverse impact on public services, the economy, and society in both parts of this island is evident. Hundreds of thousands of citizens are unemployed and emigration is again on the increase.
Sinn Féin is an Irish republican party. We are a ‘United Ireland’ party.
We believe unity makes economic and political sense.
Sinn Féin is for the sovereignty, independence and freedom of the Irish people and the right of our people to build our own society.
Sinn Fein is committed to delivering for citizens.
In pursuit of this we have agreed in the North a budget which aims to protect public services while seeking to grow the economy.
Despite all of the difficulties, the Peace Process is delivering and next May the Executive and Assembly will complete their first full term. This would have been thought impossible only a few years ago.
In the South, Sinn Féin offers the only real alternative to the conservative consensus. We are putting forward practical policies to regenerate the economy; root and branch political reform aimed at producing a genuinely open and accountable form of Government which ends the notion of political elites and empowers Irish citizens; the proper use of Ireland’s natural resources for the common good; the protection and creation of jobs; ending the two-tier health and education systems; and continued support for the Peace Process, the Good Friday Agreement and further outreach to the unionist community.

2011 will present significant challenges. Sinn Féin is up to the task of meeting and overcoming them.
