Gregory Campbell, parlamentare DUP, ha detto che manca la necessaria fiducia nella comunità unionista per il trasferimento dei poteri
“La fiducia della comunità non è presente al momento”, afferma Campbell.
“Dobbiamo lavorare fino a quando sia presente e quando ci sarà e l’avremo verificata, allora potremo procedere – ma non prima di allora. Non importa quanti primi ministri vadano e vengano, non importa quanti scandali ci siano oppure no, questo resta il problema”.
I commenti di Campbell sono giunti subito dopo le dimissioni temporanee di Peter Robinson dal posto di primo ministro per concentrarsi sui problemi personali alla luce dello scandalo che coinvolge sua moglie Iris.
Comunque Robinson si è detto pronto “a lavorare sui problemi importanti relativi al trasferimento dei poteri di polizia e giustizia e su altre questioni”.
Incontri ad alto livello tra il DUP e lo Sinn Fein, senza la partecipazione di Robinson, hanno avuto luogo lunedì sera.
Il parlamentare unionista Sammy Wilson, che ha partecipato ai colloqui, ha descritto l’umore come “buono”, ma ha evidenziato come “non sia realistico” che un accordo possa essere concluso in pochi giorni, come invece fatto trapelare.
La scorsa settimana il capogruppo parlamentare del DUP (Chief whip in inglese), Lord Morrow, ha dichiarato che il trasferimento dei poteri della giustizia non avrà luogo nel tempo di vita di questa Assemblea.

‘No confidence’ in justice move – Campbell
DUP MP Gregory Campbell says there is not enough confidence in the unionist community for the transfer of policing powers.
“The confidence in the community isn’t there at the moment,” Mr Campbell said.
“We have to work until it is and when it is and we can verify that, we then proceed – but not until then. It doesn’t matter how many first ministers come and go, it doesn’t matter how many scandals there are or aren’t, that remains the issue.”
Mr Campbell’s comments come in the aftermath of Peter Robinson stepping aside as First Minister to concentrate on personal issues in light of the scandal involving his wife, Iris.
However, Mr Robinson has committed himself “to work on the outstanding issues relating to policing and justice and some other matters”.
Senior level talks between the DUP and Sinn Fein, not involving Mr Robinson, took place on Monday night.
DUP MP Sammy Wilson, who was in attendance, described the mood in the negotiations as “good”, but stressed it was “not realistic” that a deal could be concluded within days, as has been speculated.
Last week, DUP chief whip Lord Morrow claimed the transfer of justice powers would not take place in the lifetime of the current Assembly.
