Carrickfergus: uomo ferito al collo lotta per la vita

Man fighting for life after being shot in neck in Northern Ireland shooting

A man is fighting for his life in hospital after a Northern Ireland shooting.

Police said the victim, aged in his 40s, is in hospital with life threatening injuries. He was shot in the neck.

It happened in Pinewood Avenue in Carrickfergus, Co Antrim, on Monday afternoon at around 2.15pm.

Witnesses have described hearing five shots ring out in the afternoon sky.

The ambulance service said it attended to a report of a man with a gunshot wound before he was rushed to Belfast’s Royal Victoria Hospital.

Unconfirmed reports suggest police have searched a house in the area and made one arrest.

Detectives are investigating and have appealed to anyone with information to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 605 13/03/17. Alternatively, information can be passed to the Crimestoppers charity anonymously by telephoning 0800 555 111.

Reacting, East Antrim MP Sammy Wilson said: “This type of behaviour has no place in our society. I condemn it and urge anyone with info to come forward to the PSNI.”
