Chiesta indagine per emblemi paramilitari nel campo del GAA

Il ministro dello sport ha chiesto alla Gaelic Athletic Association di indagare sull’esposizione di emblemi paramilitari in uno dei loro campi di gioco

Nelson McCausland ha detto di essere venuto a conoscenza di immagini circolanti su Internet che apparentemente mostrano l’incidente alla commemorazione degli scioperi della fame avvenuti nel club GAA di Galbally, nella Contea di Tyrone, la scorsa domenica.

“So che i terreni del GAA sono stati utilizzati per parte di questo evento e sono sicuro che molti membri importati del GAA sarano sconvolti, come lo sono io, che un campo sportivo sia usato per questo genere di attività”, ha detto il ministro del DUP.

“Incoraggio la GAA di svolgere una completa indagine sulle attività del 16 agosto a Galbally e di rilasciare un comunicato il più presto possibile.

“Lo sport ha un incredibile potenziale di unire le comunità e di contribuire ad un futuro migliore e condiviso. Questa è un’aspirazione cui la maggioranza della popolazione intende sottoscrivere.

“Gli eventi a Galbally anno provocato profonde divisioni e non hanno fatto nulla per promuovere l’armonie nella nostra comunità”.

Un portavoce del GAA ha detto che l’associazione non intende rilasciare alcun commento sulla questione.

Call for GAA ‘paramilitary display’ investigation

The sports minister has called on the Gaelic Athletic Association to investigate claims a paramilitary display was staged at one of its grounds.

Nelson McCausland said he was concerned about images circulating on the internet that apparently portrayed the alleged incident at a hunger strike commemoration event at a GAA club in Galbally, Co Tyrone on Sunday.

“I understand that the GAA grounds were used for part of this event and I am sure that many senior figures in the GAA will be as horrified as I am that a sports ground was used for this type of activity,” said the DUP minister.

“I would encourage the GAA to carry out a full investigation into the activities of August 16 at Galbally and to make a full statement as soon as possible.

“Sport has tremendous potential to bring communities together and to contribute to a shared and better future. This is an aspiration to which the vast majority of the population here subscribe.

“The events in Galbally have been deeply divisive and do nothing to promote harmony in our community.”

A spokesman for the GAA said the association would not be making any comment on the matter at this stage.
