Tre uomini sono stati formalmente accusati per l’attacco armato contro la polizia avvenuto a North Belfast a inizio dicembre
Furono sparati diversi proiettili con un fucile d’assalto contro i veicoli della polizia mentre transitavano da Crumlin Road la sera del 5 dicembre.
Domenica i tre uomini sono stati arrestati nelle zone di Belfast e Lurgan. Tra loro il prominente repubblicano Colin Duffy.
Due degli uomini, di 46 e 47 anni, dovrebbero comparire in tribunale a Belfast con l’accusa di aver favorito il tentato omicidio di membri della polizia.
Sono anche accusati di favoreggiamento nel possesso di armi da fuoco con l’intento di mettere in pericolo vite umane.
Sono altresì accusati, insieme anche al cinquantaduenne, di cospirazione per uccidere membri delle forze di sicurezza, cospirazione per possesso di esplosivi con l’intento di mettere in pericolo delle vite, possesso di armi da fuoco e appartenenza ad un’organizzazione illegale.
Due dei veicoli della polizia stavano trainando dei segnali digitali di allerta quando il convoglio è stato investito dai proiettili provenienti dalla zona di Herbert Street.
I responsabili dell’attacco avrebbero costruito una piattaforma in Herbert Street da cui sono stati esplosi i colpi d’arma da fuoco.

Three charged over Crumlin Road, Belfast, police gun attack
Three men have been charged over a gun attack on police in north Belfast earlier this month.
Police vehicles were hit with shots from an assault rifle on the Crumlin Road on the night of Thursday 5 December.
The men were arrested in the Belfast and Lurgan areas on Sunday.
Two of the men, aged 46 and 47, are due to appear at Belfast Magistrate’s Court later charged with aiding and abetting the attempted murder of police.
They are also accused of aiding and abetting the possession of firearms with intent to endanger life.
They are further charged, along with a 52-year-old man, with conspiracy to murder members of the security forces, conspiracy to possess explosives with intent to endanger life, possession of firearms with intent to endanger life and membership of a proscribed organisation.
Two of the police vehicles were towing digital warning signs behind them when the convoy came under fire from the Herbert Street area.
Two of the vehicles and one of the signs was hit by the gunfire.
It is understood those behind the attack built a platform on Herbert Street, from where the shots were fired.
