Colpita la famiglia Devlin

Due pipe bomb sono state lasciate fuori da una casa in Whitecliff Parade la scorsa settimana. La polizia le ha descritte come molto artigianali ma funzionanti.

Una sezione di Ballymurphy Street è stata cordonata lo scorso giovedì mattina mentre gli artificieri dell’esercito erano incaricati di verificare gli oggetti depositati fuori dall’abitazione che fu di Gerard Devlin, l’uomo accoltellato a morte per strada nel febbraio 2006.

La madre di Gerard, Mary Devlin, i cui sei nipoti vivono nella casa oggetto dell’attacco, ha spiegato cosa è accaduto.

“Due pipe bomb sono lasciate fuori dalla casa della compagna di mio figlio. Le ha trovate quando stava pulendo la zona anteriore della casa e le ha spostate perché non sapeva cosa fossero”.

Mary dice di non sapere perché la sua famiglia è stata bersagliata ma ritiene che i perpetratori cerchino di provocare una reazione.

“Non so chi potrebbe aver fatto questo né il perché, tutto ciò che so è che i miei nipoti sono stati tormentati quotidianamente.

Per due anni abbiamo cercato di tenere i ragazzi sulla retta via ma qualcuno sta cercando di provocarli per farli reagire”, ha detto.

La PSNI ha confermato di star investigando sull’incidente.

“In seguito ad ulteriori esami la polizia ha descritto gli ordigni come estremamente rozzi ma efficaci.

“Indagini sono in corso”, ha affermato un portavoce della PSNI.

Devlin family targeted

Two pipe bomb devices left outside a house in Whitecliff Parade last week have been described by police as extremely crude but viable.

A section of the Ballymurphy street was cordoned off last Thursday morning while Army
Technical Officers were drafted in to investigate the objects dumped outside the home of the late Gerard Devlin, who was stabbed to death in the street in February 2006.

Gerard’s mother, Mary Devlin, whose six grandchildren live in the house that was targeted, explained what happened.

“Two pipe bombs were left out the front of my son’s partner’s home. She came across them when she was cleaning the front of her house and she actually lifted them up because she didn’t know what they were.”

Mary says she does not know why her family is being targeted but believes the perpetrators are trying to provoke a reaction.

“I don’t know who would have done this or why, all I know is that my grandchildren are being tormented day and daily.

“For two years we have been trying to keep the kids on the straight and narrow but someone is trying to provoke them to get a reaction,” she said.

The PSNI confirmed they are investigating the incident.

“Following further examination police have described the devices as extremely crude but viable.

Inquiries into the incident are ongoing,” said a PSNI spokesperson.
