La Commissione Parate ha rivelato di aver ricevuto circa 30 richieste per manifestazioni di protesta legate alla disputa sulle bandiere, ma un evento di East Belfast non ha presentato la domanda.
In risposta ai commenti rilasciati dal reverendo Mervyn Gibson, la Commissione afferma che la legge in materia è chiara.
“È un reato organizzare o partecipare a una parata che non è stata notificata alla polizia attraverso l’apposito modulo” spiega un portavoce della Commissione.
“Quando una paraa non viene notificata e quindi si tratta di una violazione della legge, è compito della polizia gestirla in base alle varie opzioni a loro disposizione, che comprendono il blocco della parata o la raccolta di prove per un potenziale procedimento legale.
“Mentre la polizia e la COmmissione hanno ricevuto le notifiche di circa 30 parate legate alla disputa sulle bandiere, un evento a East Belfast non è stato notificato”.
Giovedì il reverendo Mervyn Gibson ha rivelato che l’Orange Order sta valutando di seguire una linea in cui non saranno inviate notifiche sulle parate.
“Cercheranno una consulenza legale e, sì, questa potrebbe essere una possibilità” afferma un orangista.
“Solo perché compili il modulo, potresti essere accusato di un reato (secndo la legge sulle parate).
“Se tu non compili il modulo, non stai comettendo un reato a meno che tu non infranga la legge.
“Quale sarebbe il motivo di compilare un modulo se poi puoi ricevere una condanna?”.

Commission notified of 30 flag parades
The Parades Commission have revealed that they have been notified of around 30 flag related parades so far, but say that one event in East Belfast has not been notified.
In response to the comments made by Mervyn Gibson, the Commission said the law was very clear.
“It is an offence to organise or participate in a parade that has not been notified through the appropriate form to the police,” said a spokesman for the commission.
“Where a parade is not so notified and is therefore breaking the law, it is a matter for the police to deal with under the various options open to them that could include stopping the parade or gathering evidence for potential prosecution.
“While the Police and Commission have been notified of around 30 flag related parades to date, one event in East Belfast has not been notified.”
On Thursday, Rev Mervyn Gibson revealed that the Order was considering a no notification policy.
“They will seek legal advice and that could be a possibility, yes,” said the senior Orange man.
“Simply because you fill in the form, you could get charged with an offence (under parading law).
“You don’t fill in the form, you aren’t committing an offence other than you broke some other law.
“What would be the point of filling in a form if you could end up with a criminal conviction?”
