Completato il rapporto sulla morte di Robert Hamill

Il comitato dell’inchiesta pubblica che sta esaminando come la polizia gestì l’omicidio settario di Robert Hamill ha completato il proprio rapporto

Hamill, 25 anni cattolico, venne picchiato a morte da una banda di lealisti a Portadown, nella contea di Armagh, nel 1997.

I risultati della pubblica inchiesta non saranno rilasciati fino a quando tre procedimenti penali in relazione al caso non saranno conclusi.

Il governo ha detto che il rapporto è stato collocato in un luogo sicuro.

Il mese scorso, il Segretario di Stato per l’Irlanda del Nord, Owen Paterson, aveva annunciato il ritardo d
nel completamento della relazione.

L’indagine iniziò le audizioni pubbliche nel gennaio 2009 e ha ha emanato le comunicazioni di chiusura nel dicembre 2009.

Gli inquirenti hanno ascoltato di persona 174 testimoni e ricevuto 37 dichiarazioni da altre persone.

Hamill, padre di tre bambini, subì gravi ferite al capo e moì 11 giorni dopo l’attacco.

Report into Robert Hamill killing is completed

The public inquiry panel examining how the police handled the sectarian killing of Robert Hamill have completed their report.

Mr Hamill, a 25-year-old Catholic, was beaten to death by a loyalist mob in Portadown, County Armagh, in 1997.

The public inquiry’s finding’s will not be released until three prosecutions in connection with the case have concluded.

The government said the report had been placed in a secure location.

Last month, NI Secretary of State, Owen Paterson, announced the report delay.

The inquiry began its public hearings in January 2009 and held closing submissions in December 2009.

It heard evidence in person from 174 witnesses and witness statements from a further 37 witnesses.

Mr Hamill, a father-of-three, suffered serious head injuries and died 11 days after the attack.
