Componenti Semtex trovati a Maghaberry

Tracce di un componente utilizzato negli esplosivi Semtex sono state ritrovare nelle celle di prigionieri repubblicani detenuti a Maghaberry

Il componente è stato ritrovato per mezzo di un tampone realizzato durante le perquisizioni di routine in due celle nella Roe House.

Un portavoce del Prison Service ha detto che non è stato ritrovato Semtex durante l’operazione.

Finlay Spratt, del Prisoner Officer Association, ha parlato di sviluppo preoccupante che solleva dei problemi per la sicurezza degli agenti penitenziari.

“Non sappiamo se sia stato fatto entrare oppure no dell’esplosivo nella prigione, ma è uno sviluppo molto preoccupante per il personale che sta già facendo un lavoro molto difficile”, ha detto.

Semtex è fabbricato utilizzando i composti chimici PETN (Pentaerythritol Tetranitrate) e RDX (Cyclonite – Hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine).

Semtex component found in prison

Traces of a component used in Semtex explosives were found in the cells of republican prisoners in Maghaberry Prison, the BBC understands.

The component was detected in swab tests taken during routine searches of two cells at Roe House.

A Prison Service spokesman said no Semtex was found during the operation.

Finlay Spratt, of the Prison officers Association, said it was a worrying development which raised concerns about officer’s safety.

“We don’t whether or nor explosives have been brought into the prison, but it is a very worrying development for the staff who already do a very difficult job,” he said.

Semtex is manufactured using the chemical compounds PETN and RDX.
