Condannati gli spari contro la stazione PSNI di Crossmaglen

Il ministro della Sicurezza Paul Goggins ha condannato le persone dietro l’attacco contro una stazione di polizia a Crossmaglen

I colpi d’arma da fuoco sono stati esplosi domenica sera contro la stazione della polizia. Nessuno è rimasto ferito, ma la polizia chiede informazioni.

Un’autovettura si è fermata ai cancelli della stazione PSNI intorno alle 21.30 e due persone hanno esploso numerosi proiettili prima di allontanarsi verso Cullaville, South Armagh.

I repubblicani sono ritenuti i responsabili dell’attacco, dichiarato “riprovevole” da Goggins.

“Condanno assolutamente chi ha compiuto questo attacco. Un altro attacco contro la PSNI – questa volta si tratta di una stazione di polizia, ma solo poche settimane fa si è trattato di un agente.

“E’ molto importante stare uniti contro questo genere di comportamento riprovevole. Non c’è parte in Irlanda del Nord per questo genere di comportamento.

“Sono una piccola minoranza – non rappresentano nessuno e dobbiamo condannarli assolutamente”, ha proseguito Goggins.

Vuoto politico

Il parlamentare SDLP della zona, Dominic Bradley, dice che le persone autrici di questo attacco si stanno avvantaggiando dell’attuale instabilità politica.

“Più lungo è il vuoto e più esiste l’opportunità che credano di poter esercitare la loro influenza”, dice a Bradley.

“Ritengo che la sola risposta sia mostrare che le istituzioni politiche stanno lavorando, cosa che non avviene in questo momento e che il vuoto politico sta fornendo a queste persone un’opportunità.

“Abbiamo bisogno di dagli attuali colloqui; abbiamo bisogno del trasferimento dei poteri su polizia e giustizia”.

Police base gun attack condemned

Northern Ireland Security Minister Paul Goggins has condemned those behind a gun attack on a police station in Crossmaglen.

The shots were fired at the PSNI base on Sunday night. No-one was injured but police have appealed for information.

A car pulled up at the gates of the police station at around 9.30pm and two people fired several rounds before making off towards Cullaville, south Armagh.

Dissident republicans are thought to be behind the attack which Mr Goggins has branded “reprehensible”.

“I absolutely condemn those who carried out this attack. Another attack on the PSNI – this time it was a police station, but just a couple of weeks ago it was a police officer.

“It’s very important that we all stand together in the face of that kind of reprehensible behaviour. There’s no part in Northern Ireland for that kind of behaviour.”

“They’re a small minority – they represent no-one and we should stand absolutely in condemnation of them,” Mr Goggins said.

‘Political vacuum’

The SDLP MLA for the area, Dominic Bradley, said the people who carried out this attack were taking advantage of current political instability.

“The longer there is a vacuum the more the opportunity they believe they have to exert their influence,” said Mr Bradley.

“I believe the only answer to that is to show that the political institutions are working, that isn’t the case at the moment and that vacuum is priding these people with an opportunity.”

“We need results from the present talks; we need the powers of policing and justice to be transferred to Northern Ireland.”
