Uno dei tre uomini incarcerati per il massacro di Greysteel del 1993 è stato condannato a quattro mesi di carcere per aver aggredito due sorelle in un bar di Coleraine nel maggio 2008
Mercoledì il giudice del tribunale di Antrim ha condannato l’ex uomo della UFF a quattro mesi di carcere.
Knight ha trascorso sette anni in carcere per la sua parte avuta nell’omicidio di otto persone al bar Rising Sun e quattro lavoratori a Castlerock nel 1993.
Per il giudice l’attacco contro le due sorelle era un “orribile incidente”, divenuto “estremamente traumatico” per le vittime.
Knight uscì dalla prigione con una licenza di rilascio anticipato nel 2000 (in base agli Accordi del Venerdì Santo), ma è stata sospesa dopo il suo ultimo arresto.
Un avvocato difensore ha riferito che Knight vorrebbe appellarsi contro la sentenza.
Knight sarebbe potuto uscire su cauzione fino all’appello, ma resterà in carcere a causa della sospensione della licenza.
La Sentence Review Commission (Commissione sulla Revisione delle Sentenze) dovrà valutare se revocare definitivamente la licenza per il rilascio anticipato.
Nel 2005, ad un altro degli assassini di Greysteel, Stephen Irwin, fu detto che avrebbe dovuto scontare gli 8 ergastoli cui era stato condannato, dopo essere stato arrestato per aver ferito un tifoso di calcio con un coltello.
Otto persone furono colpite a morte quando una unità della UFF aprì il fuoco all’interno del bar Rising Sun, nella cittadina di Greysteel, Contea di Londonderry, la sera di Halloween del 1993.
Uno degli assalitori grido “dolcetto o scherzetto” prima di aprire il fuoco sugli avventori.
Knight, Irwin e altri due uomini UFF furono arrestati e ricevettero 8 ergastoli per gli omicidi.

Loyalist killer jailed for attack
One of the men convicted of the 1993 Greysteel massacre has been jailed for four months for attacking two sisters in a bar in Coleraine in May 2008.
The judge at Antrim Magistrates Court sentenced the former UFF man to four months in prison on Wednesday.
Knight served seven years in prison for his part in the murders of eight people at the Rising Sun bar and four workmen in Castlerock earlier the same year.
The judge said the attack on the sisters was a “nasty incident” which was “extremely traumatic” for the victims.
Knight was released from prison under an early release licence in 2000, but this was suspended after his latest conviction.
A defence lawyer said Knight plans to appeal his sentence.
Knight was granted bail pending his appeal, but he will remain in jail because of the suspension of his licence.
The Sentence Review Commission will now decide whether the licence should be revoked.
In 2005, another of the Greysteel killers, Stephen Irwin, was told he would serve out his eight life sentences after being convicted of slashing a football supporter with a knife.
Eight people were shot dead when the UFF opened fire inside the Rising Sun bar in the County Londonderry village of Greysteel at Halloween 1993.
One of the gunmen shouted “trick or treat” before opening fire on customers.
Knight, Irwin and two other UFF men were convicted and given eight life sentences for the murders.
