Contestata la chiusura notturna di quattro stazioni PSNI

Il DUP ha criticato la decisione di chiudere, durante la notte, quattro delle più impegnate stazioni di polizia

Le stazioni PSNI di Lisburn, Antrim, Newtownabbey e Carrickfergus non saranno aperte al pubblico dalle 23 alle 8.

I cambiamenti, che avranno effetto dal 1° aprile, sono stati bollati come una “decisione oltraggiosa” dal DUP.

“Non c’è stata alcuna consultazione e credo debbano tornare sui loro passi e prendere in considerazione l’opinione pubblica su questo tema”, ha detto Edwin Poots, parlamentare del DUP, a UTV.

“Recentemente avevamo avuto una rassicurazione dall’Assistant Chief Constable (Assistente al Comandante della Polizia) che questo non sarebbe successo, e poi pochi mesi dopo cambiano idea e affermano di voler chiudere queste stazioni al pubblico durante la notte, e questo non è buono per niente”.

Un portavoce della polizia ha affermato che continueranno a rispondere a chiunque si presentasse ad una stazione per un’emergenza e tale decisione è stata presa per permettere lo spiegamento di più agenti durante la notte.

Lo scorso anno il Policing Board acconsentì alla vendita di 26 stazioni della PSNI e rivelò i piani per chiuderne altre 25.

Al momento la polizia ha annunciato per il prossimo futuro una revisione dei meccanismi di gestione del personale durante la notte nelle stazioni più grandi.

Cut to stations’ opening hours slammed

The DUP has criticised the decision to close four of Northern Ireland’s busiest police stations at night.

The police stations at Lisburn, Antrim, Newtownabbey and Carrickfergus will not be open to the public from 11pm – 8am.

The changes, which will come into effect from April 1, have been dubbed an “outrageous decision” by the DUP.

“There has been no consultation and I think that they need to draw back and take into account the public view on this matter,” DUP MLA Edwin Poots told UTV.

“We recently got an assurance from the ACC that this wouldn’t be happening, and then a few months later they turned around and said they were going to close these stations at night to the public, and that’s not good enough.”

A police spokesman said they will continue to respond to anyone coming to a station in an emergency and said the decision has been taken to allow more officers to be deployed at night.

Last year the Policing Board agreed to sell off 26 police stations and revealed plans to shut another 25 bases.

At the time the police announced a review of nighttime staffing arrangements at larger stations would take place in the near future.
