Contestatori lealisti non soddisfatti della gestione della protesta anti-G8

Mentre i contestatori anti-G8 si radunavano alla Belfast City Hall per i discorsi, i lealisti hanno manifestato a poca distanza

Circa 100 lealisti si sono radunati vicino ai cancelli del municipio di Belfast, circondati da altrettanti agenti di polizia che hanno formato una barriera umana per tenerli separati dal raduno anti-G8.

I lealisti si sono detti non contenti perché la protesta contro il summit in Fermanagh è stata facilitata dalla polizia mentre la loro manifestazione riguardante la disputa sulle bandiere è stata gestita in maniera differente.

Secondo il leader del PUP, Billy Hutchinson, alcuni hanno visto la manifestazione anti-G8 come “anti-britannica”.

La disputa per le bandiere è iniziata lo scorso dicembre, quando il Belfast City Council ha deciso di limitare il numero di giorni in cui la bandiera dell’Unione sventola dai pennoni della City Hall.

Loyalist flag protestors unhappy at how anti-G8 protest was facilitated

AS anti-G8 protestors gathered at Belfast city Hall for speeches, a separate demonstration was being staged by loyalists.

Around 100 loyalists congregated near the gates of the landmark building with around the same number of police officers forming a human barrier to ensure they were kept apart from the anti-G8 rally.

Flag protestors said they were not happy at how the anti-G8 protest had been facilitated by police claiming their protest has been handled differently.

PUP leader Billy Hutchinson said some saw the anti-G8 protest as being “anti-British”.

The ongoing flags protest stems from a decision made last year by Belfast City Council to limit the number of days the Union flag flies over City Hall.
