Continuano le indagini sui pacchi bomba inviati a Neil Lennon e ad altre importanti figure scozzesi, con la polizia ancora alla ricerca di una coppia che potrebbe detenere informazioni importanti
“E’ imperativo che questa coppia si presenti”, afferma il Soprintendente Capo della polizia di Strathclyde, Ruaraidh Nicolson.
“Insisto nel dire che sono dei semplici testimoni – tuttavia, ogni informazione chiave di cui sono a conoscenza potrebbe aiutare l’indagine. Loro possono pensare di non aver visto nulla di rilevante, però voglio dire di lasciar giudicare a noi”.
L’ultimo pacco esplosivo ad essere spedito è stato intercettato a Belfast nel National Return Letter Centre (Ufficio per il rientro delle lettere nazionali) due settimane fa – ma si è scoperto contere un presunto ordigno solo quando è stato riesaminato martedì nella vicina stazione PSNI di Musgrave Street.
Era indirizzato all’organizzazione repubblicana scozzese Cairde na h’Eireann di Glasgow e dovrebbe essere entrato nel circuito postale della Scozia. Non è ancora dato a sapere da dove sia stato spedito e, al momento, non c’è nulla che lo colleghi all’Irlanda del Nord.
“Continuiamo ad avere un dialogo quotidiano con Royal Mail, e la loro continua vigilanza è senza prezzo”, afferma il Soprintendente Nicolson.
Ma mentre la popolazione è stata elogiata per il sostegno e la collaborazione, l’ufficiale ha aggiunto: “Le risposte sono qui fuori e abbiamo bisogno di molte informazioni da parte della gente.
“Qualcuno fuori di qui sa chi c’è dietro questo crimine irresponsabile e spaventoso, e continueremo a lavorare incessantemente fino a quando l’autore (o gli autori) verranno catturati”.

Police continue hunt for parcel bomber
Investigations are continuing into the parcel bombs sent to Neil Lennon and other high-profile figures in Scotland, with police still searching for a couple who may hold key information.
“It is imperative that this couple come forward,” Chief Superintendent Ruaraidh Nicolson, from Strathclyde Police, said.
“I would like to stress that they are merely witnesses – however, any information they have could be helpful to the investigation. They may think that they didn’t see anything of relevance, however I would say let us be the judge of that.”
The latest package to be posted was intercepted at the National Return Letter Centre in Belfast about two weeks ago – but it was only found to contain a suspect device when it was re-examined at nearby Musgrave Street PSNI Station on Tuesday.
It had been addressed to Cairde na h’Eireann in Glasgow and is thought to have entered the postal system in Scotland. It is not yet known where it was sent from and there is nothing to suggest a link to Northern Ireland.
“We continue to have daily dialogue with Royal Mail, and their continued vigilance has been invaluable,” Chief Superintendent Nicolson said.
But while the public was praised for its support and co-operation, the senior office added: “The answers lie out there and we need as much information from the wider public as possible.
“Someone out there knows who is behind this irresponsible and appalling crime, and we will continue to work round the clock until the individual or individuals are brought to justice.”
