Cork: prosegue il processo per appartenenza a INLA

Cork INLA trial continues

Starry Plough - IRSP, Irish Republican Socialist PartyOne of three men accused of INLA membership told gardaí that he did not know two men who last month pleaded guilty to membership of the same organisation, the Special Criminal Court heard today.

Neil Myles (aged 54), of no fixed abode, also told gardaí during interviews that he was not a member of the INLA but a member of the Irish Republican Socialist Party (IRSP).

Mr Myles, Edward McGarrigle (aged 43), Melmont Gardens, Strabane, Co Tyrone, and John McCrossan (aged 47), Ballycoleman Estate, Strabane, Co Tyrone have all pleaded not guilty to membership of the INLA on February 22 last year.

Mr Myles told gardaí that he knew neither Gareth Dunne (aged 23), of Clonard Rd, Crumlin nor Gerard Kelleher (aged 28), Cathedral View Walk, Kevin St, Dublin 8 – both of whom have admitted membership of the INLA on February 22 last year.

When it was put to Mr Myles that he “denied knowledge of Gareth Dunne or Gareth Kelleher yet CCTV footage clearly puts you in their presence”, he replied: “No comment.”

The court had earlier heard evidence that gardaí in Cork were aware that INLA members in the city were planning to kidnap a local businessman.

The trial continues.
