Il repubblicano ritenuto legato all’omicdio della guardia carceraria David Black è stato fermato dalla polizia irlandese
Damien McLaughlin era stato arrestato dopo l’omicidio di David Black nel novembre 2012.
A Damien “DD” McLaughlin fu concesso il rilascio con la condizionale a maggio 2014, ma dallo scorso novembre si era reso non rintracciabile dalla polizia.
Il quarantenne repubblicano è accusato di favoreggiamento per l’omicidio della guardia carceraria.
È anche accusato di possesso di oggetti da usare per compiere atti di terrorismo e di appartenenza ad un’organizzazione illegale.
Damien McLaughlin è stato arrestato oggi dalla Garda a Letterkenny su mandato di cattura europea in collaborazione con la PSNI nordirlandese.
Un altro uomo di 59 anni e una donna di 47 anni sono stati arrestati nel corso della stessa operazione.
McLaughlin dovrebbe comparire domani in tribunale a Dublino.
Il Soprintendente Capo Raymond Murray, del Serious Crime Branch della PSNI, ha detto: “Dalla sua scomparsa la polizia ha eseguito ampie indagini riguardo McLaughlin.
“Per tutto questo tempo la PSNI ha collaborato strettamente con An Garda Siochana e gli arresti di oggi dimostrano i benefici del lavoro condiviso tra le forze di polizia e le agenzie di altri paesi.
“Come parte dell’operazione un uomo di 59 anni è stato fermato nel Donegal e una donna è stata arrestata a Belfast”.
La PSNI ha riferito di aver avvertito i familiari di David Black per aggiornarli degli sviluppi del caso.

David Black murder: Damien McLaughlin arrested
A man charged in connection with the 2012 murder of a Northern Ireland prison officer has been arrested by Irish police.
Damien McLaughlin was arrested and charged following the shooting dead of David Black in November 2012.
Mr McLaughlin was granted bail in May 2014 but had not been seen by police since last November.
The 40-year-old, from Kilmascally Road near Ardboe, is charged with aiding and abetting murder.
He is also accused of possessing items to be used in terrorism and belonging to an illegal organisation.
Mr McLaughlin was arrested under a European Arrest Warrant by gardai as part of a joint intelligence-led operation with the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI).
Another man, aged 59, and a woman, 47, were also arrested during the operation.
Mr McLaughlin is scheduled to appear at Dublin’s Central Criminal Court on Friday.
Det Ch Supt Raymond Murray, from PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch, said: “Since his disappearance police have carried out extensive enquiries regarding Mr McLaughlin’s whereabouts.
“Throughout this time the PSNI has been liaising closely with An Garda Siochana and today’s arrests demonstrate the benefits of joint working between police forces and other national partner agencies.
“As part of the operation a 59-year old man was also arrested in Donegal and a 47-year-old woman was arrested in Belfast.”
The PSNI said senior detectives had contacted the Black family today to update them on developments.
