DD McLaughlin: Strip search anche al momento del rilascio

Mentre la famiglia e gli amici del POW Damien DD McLaughlin attendevano il suo rilascio, il 23 dicembre, l’uomo subiva l’utilma e vendicativa misura d parte del regime settario a Maghaberry.

Mentre radunava le sue cose, 2 secondini gli hanno chiesto di spogliarsi davanti a loro. Damien ha immediatamente rifiutato e la squadra anti-sommossa, già pronta nelle vicinanze, si è precipitata nella cella per compiere la loro umiliazione finale con un strip search. Damien è stato quindi costretto a terra ed i vestiti gli sono stati strappati con la più brutale forza immaginabile.

La perquisizione forzata è un atto punitivo utilizzata dal regime all’interno di Maghaberry per consentire ai secondini di aggredire i prigionieri di guerra repubblicani, senza timoredi ricorsi. E’ una punizione corporale legalizzata… Mentre il mondo occidentale denuncia le politiche di apartheid in tutto il mondo, si chiudono gli occhi su quanto avviene nel cortile di casa.

Chiedete ai vostri politici perché non condannano questa violenza statale, giorno dopo giorno! Chiedete ai media perché non ne parlano, perché la ignorano! Le strip search erano sbagliate negli anni Ottanta. Adesso invece è accettabile?

Republican POW DD McLaughlin forcibly strip searched on release

As family and friends of Republican POW Damien “DD” McLaughlin eagerly awaited his release on the 23rd December, Damien was facing a final vindictive measure from the sectarian regime within Maghaberry.

As he gathered his belongings, 2 screws asked him to strip his clothes off in front of them. Damien immediately refused and the riot squad, who had been prepared nearby, rushed in to perform their final attempted humiliation with the now regular forced strip search. Damien was then forced to the ground and had his clothes wrenched off in the most brutal force imaginable.

The forced strip search is a punitive act used by the regime within Maghaberry to enable them to assault Republican POWs without fear of recourse. It is legalised corporal punishment… As the Western world decries political apartheid across the world, a blind eye is turned in their own backyard.

Ask your politicians why they are not condemning this sponsored state violence, day in, day out! Ask the media why they are not reporting it, why they are ignoring it! Strip searching was wrong in 1980. Is it now acceptable?
