Il presidente di un’associazione dell’Ulster Unionist in Irlanda del Nord entra nel DUP

Mark Brooks, 45 anni, che ha diretto il ramo di North Down, ha deciso di cambiare partito dopo che l’unica parlamentare di Westminster, Lady Sylvia Hermon, hMark Brooksa dichiarato di non voler correre nelle loro fila alle prossime elezioni.

Controversia

La scorsa settimana Lady Sylvia rivelò di non voler fare campagna elettorale sotto le insegne unite dei Conservative e Unionist adottate dal partito nei mesi recenti.

Brooks ha detto: “Non ho problemi con le personalità coinvolte e penso che l’UUP ritornerà ma in questo istante sembra una cosa egativa e dal mio punto di vista non posso continuare ad essere il presidente dell’associazione”.

Miglioramento

“Dalla mia esperienza come uomo di affari in North Down – prosegue Brooks – ho guardato il DUP sul territorio e osservato come serve i propri elettori e sento che sarò migliore con loro.

“Credo di poter fare un vero cambiamento in futuro con il partito”, ha concluso il politico unionista.

E’ stato membro dell’Ulster Unionist Party per gli ultimi sei o sette anni ma non è mai stato eletto. Originario di Lisburn, Contea di Down, possiede un ristorante a Donaghadee.

UUP man defects to DUP

THE chairman of an Ulster Unionist association in Northern Ireland is joining the DUP.

Mark Brooks, 45, who headed the north Down branch, switched sides after the UUP’s sole MP Lady Sylvia Hermon said she would not stand for them at the next general election.

Controversy

Last week, Lady Sylvia said she would not campaign under the Conservative and Unionist banner adopted by the party in recent months.

Mr Brooks said: “I don’t have a problem with the personalities involved and I think the UUP will come again but at the minute it just looks very bad and from my point of view I could not continue to be chairman of the association.

Improvement

“From my experience as a businessman in north Down I have watched the DUP on the ground as they serve their constituents and I feel I would be better with them.

“I believe I could make a real change in the future with the party.”

He has been a member of the UUP for the last six or seven years but has never been elected. Originally from Lisburn, Co Down, he runs a restaurant in Donaghadee.
