SF delegation to visit Maghaberry
A Sinn Féin delegation will visit the prisoners in Roe House in Maghaberry tomorrow afternoon [today 19th August]. The delegation with include Caral Ní Chuilin and Raymond McCartney.
Speaking today in advance of the visit Ms NíChuilin said:
“In the course of the past number of months as the protest in Roe House escalated, we held a number of meetings with the prisoners, the prison administration and the Justice Minister.
“We said from the outset that the situation that pertained in Roe House was unacceptable and needed to change. It was always our belief that this could and would happen if the necessary political will was shown.
“Last week the prisoners reached an agreement with the prison authorities and the protest ended. This was welcome news. However what needs to happen now is that all agreements reached are honoured and no return to the previous regime is allowed. In the past the implementation of such agreements has been frustrated by the attitude of the POA. That cannot be allowed to happen in this instance.”
