Un allarme sicurezza lungo una delle arterie della parata annuale degli Apprentice Boys of Derry sta proseguendo
L’incidente è avvenuto mentre la PSNI indagava su un presunto oggetto sospetto lasciato in Spencer Road alle 2:15 di sabato mattina.
La vicina Iona House guesthouse è stata evacuata.
La polizia è stata attaccata intorno alle 3 del mattino mentre stava compiendo le proprie investigazioni.
Secondo una portavoce della polizia, la PSNI e gli artificieri dell’esercito stanno continuando ad esaminare la scena e che le forze di sicurezza vorrebbero liberare la zona prima dell’inizio della parata alle 12:30.
In un altro incidente un ragazzo di vent’anni è stato gravemente ferito in un attacco in stile paramilitare nel Waterside intorno alle 2 di sabato mattina.
La vittima è stata medicata in ospedale per una ferita alla testa ed è stato rivelato che entrambe le mani sono state fratturate durante l’aggressione.
L’attacco è avvenuto in Strule Gardens.
Tre uomini a volto coperto armati di mazze da golf e di un martello hanno compiuto l’assalto.
Una portavoce della polizia ha riferito: “Deve ancora essere stabilito un movente ma un attacco in stile paramilitare è tra le ipotesi di lavoro”.
Spencer Road alert continues
A SECURITY alert along one of the arterial alerts on the annual Apprentice Boys of Derry is continuing.
The incident happened as the PSNI investigated reports of a suspicious device being left on Spencer Road at around 2.15am on Saturday morning.
The nearby Iona House guesthouse was evacuated.
Police were attacked by petrol bombers at around 3am whilst carrying out their investigation.
A police spokeswoman said that the PSNI and Army Technical Officers are continuing to examine the scene and that security forces are endeavouring to clear the area before the beginning of the main parade at 12.30pm.
In another incident a man in his 20’s has been seriously injured in what appears to have been a paramilitary style attack in the Waterside at around 2am on Saturday morning.
The victim has been treated in hospital for a head injury and it is understood his hands may have been broken in the attack.
The incident took place at Strule Gardens at approximately 2am on Saturday.
Three masked men wielding golf clubs and a hammer carried out the assault.
A police spokeswoman said: “A motive has yet to be established but a paramilitary style attack is one line of enquiry.”
