Derry: disordini nel Bogside dopo la parata degli Apprentice Boys

Dopo l’annuale parata degli Apprentice Boys of Derry sono scoppiati dei disordini nel quartiere nazionalista di Bogside

Giovani a volto coperto hanno attaccato le Land Rover della polizia, lanciando bottiglie incendiarie. Alcune automobili sono state sequestrate e date alle fiamme.

I gruppi repubblicani hanno tenuto manifestazioni di protesta durante l’annuale parata degli Apprentice Boys a Derry.

Quasi 5.000 sostenitori sono giunti in città per partecipare alla marcia dei 10.000 Apprendisti, realizzata per segnare l’anniversario dell’Assedio di Derry del 1688/89, nella più grande parata lealista dell’anno.

C’è stata una costanze presenza della polizia nella città, mentre i repubblicani protestavano a pochi metri di distanza da dove è passata la parata.

Il 32 County Sovereignty Movement ha installato un campo nel Bogside, in quello che definisce “il campo anti-internamento di due giorni”, per evidenziare le condizioni dei prigionieri repubblicani nella prigione di Maghaberry.

Due uomini hanno sequestrato un furgone della Royal Mail nella zona di Madamsbank Road, incendiandolo poco dopo mezzogiorno, dopo averlo portato in Earhart Park.

Il fuoco è stato domato ma ci sono denunce di ulteriori tentativi di furto di vettura, quindi gli automobilisti sono stati avvisati di essere particolarmente attenti.

Disorder breaks out following parade

Trouble has erupted in the Bogside area of Londonderry, after the annual Apprentice Boys’ parade in the city.

Masked youths attacked police landrovers, throwing petrol bombs and a number of cars have also been hijacked and set alight.

Dissident republican groups held protests during the annual Apprentice Boys‘ parade in Londonderry.

Up to 5,000 supporters turned out to see around 10,000 march to mark the anniversary of the 1688/89 Siege of Derry, in the biggest loyal order parade of the year.

There is a continued heavy police presence in the city, with the dissident republican groups protesting in some places just metres away from where the parade passed.

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement, regarded by many as the political wing of the Real IRA, has set up camp in the Bogside, as part of what they call “a two-day anti-internment camp” about conditions for republican prisoners.

Meanwhile, two men have hijacked a Royal Mail van in the Madamsbank Road area of the city and torched the vehicle in Earhart Park at around 12.30pm.

The fire has been put out but there are reports of other attempted hijackings and motorists are advised to be vigilant.
