Un allarme sicurezza a Derry sta continuando per il secondo giorno consecutivo, per permettere agli artificieri di esaminare un presunto ordigno alla luce del sole
Lunedì un giornale locale ha ricevuto una telefonata da un presunto rappresentante del movimento repubblicano secondo cui una bomba di mortaio era stata lasciata in un vicolo nel quartiere di Currynierin, nei sobborghi di Derry.
Un oggetto sospetto è stato quindi scoperto nel vicolo e un’importante operazione di sicurezza è stata avviata nell’area, obbligando i residenti ad evacuare le loro abitazioni.
L’accesso all’area è stato vietato tra Ardmore Road e le altre parti del quartiere di Currynierin.
La polizia chiede alla popolazione di essere attenta e di comunicare il ritrovamento di qualsiasi oggetto sospetto.
Martedì mattina l’Ispettore Capo Andy Lemon ha detto di essere dispiaciuto per il disagio provocato sulla comunità locale ma ha spiegato che la priorità della polizia è quella di assicurare la sicurezza dei residenti.

Daylight examinations of Londonderry device
A security alert in Londonderry is continuing for a second day to allow army bomb disposal experts to examine a suspicious device in daylight
On Monday, a telephone caller to a local newspaper – from someone claiming to represent the republican movement – claimed a mortar bomb had been left on a laneway at the Currynierin estate on the outskirts of the city.
A suspicious object was subsequently found in a laneway and a major security operation was put in place forcing residents to evacuate their homes.
Access has been closed between Ardmore Road and other parts of the Currynierin estate.
Police are urging residents in the area to be vigilant and to report any suspicious objects or activity to them.
On Tuesday morning, Chief Inspector Andy Lemon said he regretted the impact the disruption had on the local community but stressed that the main priority of police was ensure the safety of that community.
