La polizia indaga su una forte esplosione udita a Derry
Il rumore proverrebbe alla zona di Waterside e si sarebbe udito intorno alle 17 di martedì.
La PSNI dichiara di “aver ricevuto numerose segnalazioni di possibili cause per l’esplosione e stiamo seguendo diverse linee di indagine.
“Un attacco contro la polizia è tra queste possibilità”.
Voci non confermate suggeriscono che lo scoppio sarebbe avvenuto in Spencer Road.
I residenti sono stati evacuati “per la sicurezza della popolazione” e alcune strade sono state chiuse.
Continua la dichiarazione della polizia: “La polizia sta evacuando la zona intorno a Spencer Road.
“Fountain Hill, Spencer Road e le strade minori tra Chapel Road e Spencer Road saranno chiuse e riteniamo lo saranno anche nella giornata di domani per permetterci le ricerche con la luce del giorno.
“Deviazioni sono state realizzate su Spencer Road in Malvern Terrace e Duke Street.
“Le case in Dunfield Terrace e Moore Street stanno per essere evacuate per la sicurezza della popolazione. La Clooney Hall in Clooney Terrace sarà a disposizione dei residenti come riparo”.
Non ci sono stati feriti e la causa dello scoppio non è ancora stata determinata.
Per il consigliere SDLP Gerard Diver potrebbe essere esploso un ordigno.
“Sto ascoltando differenti teorie su quanto è avvenuto”, ha spiegato a Utv.
“Ci sono voci non confermate che parlano della detonazione di una specie di ordigno e questo presumo sia la primaria ricerca da parte della polizia”.
Gli agenti della PSNI hanno avvertito la popolazione di essere “estremamente vigili” e ha chiesto di non toccare alcun oggetto sospetto.

Derry explosion ‘possible attack on police’
Police investigating reports of a loud explosion in Londonderry say an attack on officers is one possible line of inquiry.
The noise was reported in the Waterside area of the city just before 5pm on Tuesday.
A statement from the PSNI said: “Police have received a number of reports of possible causes of the explosion and are following a number of lines of enquiry.
“An attack on police is one possible line of enquiry.”
Unconfirmed reports suggest the bang came from the Spencer Road area.
Residents there have now been evacuated “for the safety of the local public” amid ongoing investigations, and road closures put in place.
The statement continues: “Police are evacuating the area around Spencer Road.
“Fountain Hill, Spencer Road and the minor roads between Chapel Road and Spencer Road will be closed and it is believed that these will be closed until sometime tomorrow to allow for daylight searches.
“Diversions will be in place on Spencer Road at Malvern Terrace and Duke Street.
“Houses in Dunfield Terrace and Moore Street are also being evacuated for the safety of the local public. The Clooney Hall on Clooney Terrace will be available for evacuated residents to go to.”
No injuries have been reported and the cause of the sound has not been determined.
Local SDLP councillor Gerard Diver told UTV it may have been a device exploding.
“I’m hearing various theories as to what has happened,” Mr Diver said.
“There are unconfirmed reports at this stage saying there may have been some sort of device that has been detonated or fired and I would imagine that the most likely target would have been the police.”
Officers have warned people in the area to be “extremely vigilant” and asked them not to touch any suspicious objects they may find.
