Gli artificieri dell’esercito britannico sono rimasti nella zona di un allarme sicurezza seguito all’esplosione di un ordigno in una zona residenziale di Derry
Alcune abitazioni sono state evacuate dopo lo scoppio avvenuto poco dopo le 23 di lunedì nell’area di Crawford Square.
La polizia ha affermato di aver ricevuto la chiamata di avvertimento solamente pochi minuti prima dell’esplosione.
“Non ci sono notizie di feriti” ha affermato un portavoce della polizia.
Il ministro della Giustizia David Ford ha detto che l’esplosione ha danneggiato le aziende locali, tra cui l’ufficio per la libertà vigilata.
Ha detto che l’attentato è stato un attacco “a tutta la comunità”.
Il leader di Alliance Party ha detto: “Chiunque abbia pianificato, assemblato e fatto esplodere la bomba a Derry non ha nulla di positivo da offrire alla comunità.
“Ha messo a rischio la vita degli abitanti e li ha costretti a lasciare le case”.
Il primo ministro Peter Robinson ha scritto su Twitter: “Coloro che vogliono portarci indietro non vinceranno. La democrazia trionferà sempre sul terrore”.
Il leader del DUP ha definito l’attentato come “un atto sconsiderato e senza senso”.
Nel frattempo Raymond McCartney, parlamentare dello Sinn Féin per Derry, ha condannato i responsabili di quello che ha definito “un attacco sconsiderato in un quartiere residenziale abitato”.
“Questo ha portato solo disagi alla vita dei residenti e all’intera città.
“Questa è una città che si muove in avanti e le persone hanno messo in chiaro che non vogliono questo genere di incidenti.
“Non permetteremo ad una piccola minoranza di trascinarci indietro nel passato”, ha aggiunto.
La polizia e gli artificieri dell’esercito sono rimasti sul posto tutta la notte.
In precedenza la polizia ha detto che stava esaminando un altro oggetto sospetto “nella zona vicino alla scena dell’esplosione”. L’area sarebbe stata fatta evacuare.

Security alert after Derry bomb blast
Army bomb experts remain at the scene of an ongoing security operation following an explosion in a residential area of Londonderry on Monday night.
A number of homes were evacuated after reports of the blast in the Crawford Square area of the city were received shortly before 11pm.
Police said they received a bomb warning shortly before the explosion.
“There are no reports of any injuries at this time,” a PSNI spokesman said.
Justice Minister David Ford said the explosion caused damage to local businesses, including the Probation Service.
He said the bomb attack was an attack “on the entire community”.
The Alliance leader said: “Whoever planned, assembled and set off the bomb in Derry on Monday night have nothing positive to offer the community.
“It put the lives of local people at risk and forced them to leave their homes.”
First Minister Peter Robinson tweeted: “Those who want to take us back will not win. Democracy will always triumph over terror.”
The DUP leader condemned the bomb attack as “a reckless and senseless act”.
Meanwhile Sinn Féin MLA Raymond McCartney has condemned those responsible for what he called a “reckless attack in a built-up residential area”.
“This has brought nothing but disruption to the lives of local people and to the city generally.
“This is a city moving forward and the people have made it clear that they do not want these type of incidents.
“We will not allow a tiny minority to drag us back to the past,” he added.
Police and army bomb experts remained at the scene overnight.
Earlier police said they were examining another suspicious object “in the area close the scene of the explosion”. It is understood the area has now been cleared.
Crawford Square in Derry remains closed, while Northland Road is open to traffic.
