Un consigliere di Derry è stato condannato a sei mesi di carcere per aver scritto sulle famose mura di Derry insieme ad altri due uomini.
Gary Donnelly, consigliere indipendente, e William Anthony Liam Brogan e Terry Porter sono stati condannati nel corso di quest’anno per danneggiamento in relazione ai graffiti dipinti sulle Mura di Derry il 1° febbraio.
Ai tre imputati è stata offerta la possibilità di pagare 2.291 sterline per le spese di pulizia.
Tuttavia i tre uomini hanno rifiutato di pagare e oggi sono stati condannati a sei mesi dal tribunale di Derry.
Un esperto ha detto in aula che il danno provocato alle Mura non potrà essere più sistemato.
Il giudice distrettuale Barney McElholm ha detto che le mura di Derry sono conosciute in tutto il mondo e che l’incidente non doveva aver luogo.
“La sentenza in questo caso giunge come diretta conseguenza delle azioni degli accusati” ha aggiunto.
I tre uomini sono stati rilasciati con la condizionale in attesa del processo di appello.

Derry councillor jailed for six months for daubing graffiti on city’s Walls
A Derry councillor has been jailed for six months for writing graffiti on Derry’s famous walls.
Independent councillor Gary Donnelly, 43, and two other men, William Anthony Liam Brogan (51) and Terry Porter (56), both from Carnhill, were convicted earlier this year of criminal damage in relation to the graffiti which was painted on the Walls on February 1 this year.
The three defendants were given the chance to pay £2,291 to pay for the clean-up costs.
However, they refused to do so and were today each jailed for six months at Derry Magistrates Court.
The court heard from an expert who said the damage could never be fully rectified.
District Judge Barney McElholm said the walls were of international significance and said the incident was ‘wholly uncalled for’.
“The sentence in this case flows as a direct consequence of the actions of the accused,” he added.
The three men were released on bail pending appeals.
